1. ABOUT LOOP THEATRE
LOOP Theatre is a Glasgow-based grassroots charity providing creative opportunities for adults with complex additional support needs. We deliver weekly arts workshops and performance projects in Govan and the East End. Our approach is person-centred and strengths-based, focused on creating supportive and inclusive environments for participants who often face barriers linked to disability, poverty, or social isolation.
2. ROLE PURPOSE: COMMUNITY & CAPACITY BUILDER
This is a strategic, frontline position crucial to deepening LOOP's presence within the communities we serve. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will be the key link between LOOP Theatre and local partner organisations, driving meaningful outreach and building sustainable referral pathways. The role requires a candidate with warmth, consistency, and a deep commitment to social inclusion, combining strategic community development with essential operational support.
3. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
I. Strategic Community Outreach & Partnership Development
Build meaningful, trusted connections and develop strategic partnerships with key support organisations in Govan and the East End.
Establish proactive referral routes to engage individuals facing significant barriers to participation.
Actively promote LOOP's mission and volunteer opportunities through existing, trusted community networks.
II. Inclusive Volunteer Recruitment & Induction
Design and manage a low-barrier, person-centred recruitment process.
Conduct informal interviews and needs assessments to understand applicants' goals and required support.
Manage all necessary administrative processes, including supporting PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) applications.
Strategically match volunteers to roles that align with their skills, confidence, and personal development goals.
III. Volunteer Support, Development & Insight
Attend weekly workshops to provide in-the-moment support, observe volunteer development, and foster a consistently welcoming environment.
Sensitively respond to the practical and social barriers facing individual volunteers.
Systematically collect and record volunteer goals and progress to support long-term development.
IV. Monitoring, Reporting & Data Management
Create and maintain clear, simple systems (contact-tracking and monitoring) for applications, outreach efforts, and support needs.
Prepare evidence-based monthly reports on core engagement and development metrics to support team planning and funder reporting.
4. PERSON SPECIFICATION (Skills, Knowledge, Experience)
Essential
Experience: Proven experience in community outreach, partnership development, or strategic volunteer coordination.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of inclusive practice and the principles of supporting people with complex additional support needs.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust and rapport with diverse community groups.
Organisation: Strong organisational skills and confidence in creating and maintaining simple, accurate tracking records and databases.
Working Style: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage a varied, part-time workload.
Contract Status: Currently self-employed and able to take full responsibility for own tax, NI, and statutory deductions.
Desirable
Pre-existing knowledge of Govan or East End communities and local support networks.
Experience working with individuals affected by disability, poverty, mental health challenges, or social isolation.
5. CONTRACT & APPLICATION DETAILS
Freelance Terms
This is a freelance/self-employed contract. The contractor is responsible for their own tax, National Insurance etc.
