Seasonal Opportunity until October 2026. Based at our Mallaig Port.



Role Overview





As a valued member of the Port team, you will play a vital role in delivering an exceptional experience to everyone who uses our facilities - whether they are island residents, visitors from the UK or abroad, or commercial partners.



Your responsibilities will also play a vital role in maintaining the safety, security, and efficient operation of our ports. This includes supporting routine pier maintenance and cleaning, monitoring the pier area to ensure a safe and secure environment, and enforcing safety procedures.


Day to Day Working





You'll enjoy a varied and dynamic shift pattern that includes weekends, bank holidays, and evening work - perfect for those who thrive in a flexible and ever-changing environment.



Some days will start early to welcome the first arrivals, while other shifts may see you staying on to ensure everything runs smoothly until the final vessel departs - making every day different and rewarding. There may be a requirement to work out with these hours due to operational requirements.



You will also receive unsociable hours payment of 12.5 percent on top of your hourly rate for shifts which start before 08:00 and/or end after 19:00. The basic hourly rate will be paid at single time for every hour up to 40 hours per week, every hour above this will be paid at 1.75 times the basic hourly rate.


Key Responsibilities




Ticket Sales, Printing, and Distribution:



Manage freight bookings and prepare accurate manifests. Handle the sale and collection of passenger and vehicle tickets.


Customer Interaction:



Deliver high-quality customer service by responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing assistance. Clearly communicate ticketing information, policies, and procedures to customers. Address and manage customer enquiries in a timely and professional manner.


Cash Handling:



Perform freight office duties including cash collection, invoicing, and the receipt and distribution of incoming and outgoing freight items.


Maintenance and Cleaning:



Carry out routine maintenance and cleaning tasks on the pier. Report maintenance concerns or safety hazards to supervisors promptly.


Equipment Operation:



Operate equipment such as forklifts and company vans in accordance with safety guidelines. Follow proper procedures for handling cargo and equipment. Drive vans on and off vessels and transport freight items and ship stores as required.


Security and Safety:



Monitor the pier area to maintain the safety and security of personnel, customers, and property. Enforce safety regulations and respond appropriately to emergency procedures.


Other Duties:



Manage freight in line with critical control points, including accepting, storing, loading, transporting, unloading, and delivering. Conduct regular temperature checks of food items to ensure compliance with safety standards. Assist with loading, checking, invoicing, and manifesting freight items as required. Support chartering operations on vessels such as the Loch Nevis, Loch Bhrusda, and any third-party charter vessels.


Any other duties required by the Port Manager.
