Job summary




As Futures Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping the long-term strategic direction of TPR by embedding futures thinking and insight-led innovation into policy development. Drawing on trend forecasting methodologies, you will lead the creation of a continuous discovery framework for innovation that enables regulatory and policy teams to anticipate change, surface emerging signals, and translate user insight into proactive strategic action.


You will guide cross-functional teams through horizon scanning, scenario development, and speculative design to explore complex policy challenges providing expert input helping teams to identify behavioural risk in the context of innovation evaluation, and the evolving pensions landscape towards ensuring TPR remains adaptive and future-fit.


To build institutional foresight, you will develop and curate the Future Pensions Archive a live repository of trends, insights, and provocations that inform thought leadership, strategic conversations and professional development across the organisation and with external stakeholders.


You will also cultivate strategic partnerships and foster collaboration across the pensions ecosystem, ensuring TPR's regulatory approaches are aligned with the changing needs of savers and the industry. Through storytelling, synthesis, and systems thinking, you will help embed a futures mindset across TPR, enabling teams to move from reactive to anticipatory policy design.

Job description

The team




Our Digital, Data and Technology department is driving transformation at TPR to deliver positive outcome for savers across the UK. We're building a series of value stream-aligned Service Teams and supporting Platform Teams to deliver external and internal services. These Teams will work in a User Centred, Agile way to deliver better services, that are put into the hands of our users as soon as possible, while securing the sensitive data and maintaining stable services; this will be done by long-lived, happy teams.

Person specification



Proven ability to translate emerging cultural and technological shifts into tangible, storytelling and research outputs. Strong background in futures methods, user-centred design, design research, systems thinking, and behavioral insights. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. Expertise in policy innovation and regulatory practices. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply industry trends to strategic decisions. Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience in engaging senior leadership and stakeholders. Creative skillset and portfolio of strategic thinking in different environments. Proven ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships and industry collaborations. Experience in facilitating workshops and training sessions to build internal capabilities. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
