The Opportunity:
Talbot Rice Gallery are seeking a Gallery Assistant to join our team. The post holder will bring their enthusiasm for contemporary art to public audiences and provide secretarial and administrative support for the Gallery team to deliver TRG's exhibition programme. Candidates must show aptitude for a publicly facing role with demonstrable ability to work with visitors in a professional, helpful and welcoming manner and stay calm under pressure; the skills to relay in a clear manner the information and ideas behind the exhibitions as provided by curators; understanding of hospitality and the initiative to support the team in hosting events, meetings and artists' visits; accuracy and excellent attention to detail with ability to prioritise tasks as required.
When the Gallery is open to the public, the working days are usually Tuesday-Saturday, 9.15 am-5.15 pm. There are some flexibility required around/when events are held at the Gallery. In August, the working schedule can be adjusted to include Sunday and Monday working (maintaining a 5-day week).
Your skills and attributes for success:
Relevant work experience in a customer facing position, with demonstrable ability to deal with visitors and contacts in a professional, helpful and welcoming manner.
Experience of working with volunteers or mentoring others; in a museum or arts and education environment would be plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to stay calm under pressure.
Skills in organising, prioritising tasks and planning ahead.
Good IT skills and knowledge of basic office equipment and software, and ability to master new standard packages and office equipment.
Understanding and ability to apply relevant standard procedures, including health and safety, and security requirements of a public gallery space.
