The London Cremation Company (The LCC) is proud to have shaped the development of cremations since 1900, when it was formed by the Cremation Society of Great Britain. The first crematorium in Great Britain was Woking Crematorium, which was built by the Society prior to it creating the LCC.

The Role
To be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Crematorium and Cemetery's gardens under the supervision and guidance of more senior members of the team. Demonstrating initiative in the development and enhancement of the grounds ensuring that a professional image of the site and Company are always promoted.
Responsibilities
Gardening
To carry out all gardening duties necessary to maintain and upkeep the Crematorium and Cemetery's gardens including grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, tree work, removing weeds and planting.
To be aware of the location, types and allotment of garden memorials; if requested, liaise with the Admin/Memorial Team and/or clients in order to assist with these matters
To ensure regular clearance of items from memorials left by the public, including dead flowers, plants, glass vases and any unauthorized ornaments.
To assist with the cleaning and maintenance of garden furniture, particularly those under memorialization
To carry out maintenance and care of plants in the Chapel and waiting area.
To maintain and clean all gardening equipment and machinery in full working order, where possible carrying out repairs
To assist with the construction of memorials.
To liaise with the Admin/Memorial Team for the mounting of plaques.
To maintain and clean the memorial areas, boulder stones, seats and equipment
To clean plastic vases and put them back at collection point for re-use
Car Park
To ensure that the car parks, entrances and forecourts of the Crematorium and Cemetery are clear and tidy prior to each day's services including carrying out a daily litter patrol to ensure excellent presentation of the site.
To control the smooth and efficient operation of the car park, directing funeral corteges, members of the public and other visitors to the Crematorium as necessary, avoiding congestion and other problems in the absence of the cremation team.
To assist with unlocking and locking of the site, Monday - Friday in rotation with the cremation team.
Health and Safety
To be fully conversant with the company's Health and Safety policy, ensuring compliance at all times.

Required Key Skills & Competencies
Physically in good shape and able to carry out a physically demanding job. Able to lift heavy objects and remain on your feet for long periods of time.
Trained and experienced in using a ride on lawn mower, hand lawn mower, hedge strimmer, powered hand tools and other horticultural machinery safely and professionally.
Knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.
Ability to follow instructions and guidance from other more senior members of staff and management and shows initiative, in particular in regard to the development and enhancement of the grounds.
Pro-actively seeks to obtain the information required to do the job. Passes on accurate and timely information including reporting necessary repairs or needed tools and / or equipment.
Remains positive and proactive at all times.
Works well in a team, helping and supporting each other.

Takes ownership of their own Training and Development and partakes in any training deemed necessary by the line manager or management.
Knows and follows the Company's Health and Safety policy and the Health & Safety at work Act.
Supports the training and development of apprentices, work experience students and new staff when required.
Desirable Skills & Competencies
Trained, experienced and certified to use a ride on lawn mower, tractor, Golf Buggy, Gator, Pesticides, petrol hand lawn mower, hedge strimmer, powered hand tools and other horticultural machinery safely and professionally.
Candidates who are not certified in the above will need to undertake and pass training in these areas.
A willingness to become a qualified Cremation Technician, by undertaking the FBCA Cremator Technician training and assessment. This will be paid for by the Company and requires the ability to undertake some manual handling and heavy lifting.
