Job Description

Full-time operative required at a family run business in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Typical working week is Monday to Friday, based on an 8-hour workday. Teams travel from our yard to sites across the North West, but primarily Greater Manchester. Fantastic opportunity to develop a career in gardening, learning grounds maintenance skills to enhance outdoor spaces.

Overtime opportunities at time and a half, including Saturday work and gritting over the Winter.

During the growing season work is primarily maintenance based, with teams cutting grass, shaping and pruning hedges and bushes and weeding flowerbeds. This will include the use of a mix of hand tools and petrol machinery to produce a neat, tidy finish to site. In the off season (November - March) we switch our focus on enhancing flowerbeds and borders, applying mulches and planting for the upcoming year. Attention to detail is required to make sure customers are satisfied with the quality of work produced, and employees need to complete work record sheets at the end of each job. Training is provided in how to use all tools and equipment to get the operative into a position where they are confident in all basic gardening tasks. Variety of customers, including private properties, business parks, schools and care home gardens.

Ad/hoc landscaping works done on existing customer gardens, including planting, repairing fences, returfing, and paving. Projects are managed and supervised by experienced teams, with landscaping training provided by ourselves.

All tools and equipment are provided for the teams, with personal protective equipment issued by us. Successful applicants will need to buy their own work boots (we will contribute to cost) that need to be steel toe capped.

The successful applicant will need to complete a DBS check and hold a valid UK driving license. There may be some lone working, but typically will be working as a part of a team.

Fit enough to handle an outdoor job, using gardening tools.

Able to resolve customer queries and resolve issues in a calm, professional way.

Punctual with good timekeeping skills.

Confident enough to take ownership of a small gardening round (we will build up to this).

Salary: 12.80 per hour. As soon as we are confident you can take on your own round expectation is for successful candidate to be driving the van.
