The General Maintenance role is vital to ensuring the smooth operation and ongoing upkeep of our care home facilities and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality, and the ability to work efficiently within a busy environment. Strong time management skills and accurate record-keeping are essential to ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented and managed.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of the care home's facilities and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff or residents, resolving issues related to plumbing, electrical, heating, and lighting repairs.
- Carry out general repair and maintenance tasks, including painting, carpentry, decorating, and small-scale repairs.
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained at all times, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance work completed and scheduled inspections.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment for activities and events within the home.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of maintenance supplies and tools, and place orders when necessary.
- Ensure the environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained, promoting a comfortable and secure living space for residents.
- Collaborate with management and external contractors for complex repairs or upgrades.
- Adhere to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in property maintenance, facilities management, or a similar role, ideally within a care home, residential setting, or housing association.
- Relevant technical qualifications such as City & Guilds in Electrical Installation, Plumbing, or Building Maintenance, or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations, including infection control standards relevant to elderly care settings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with staff, residents, and external contractors.
- A valid UK driving license is desirable for travel between sites or errands.
