General Manager - Fresh Produce and FMCG Wholesaler

Role Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and commercially minded

General Manager

to take operational and strategic leadership of one of our UK-based trading businesses within the

Fresh Produce and FMCG wholesale sector

. This individual will oversee all aspects of day-to-day operations, purchasing, supplier relationships, and team coordination while also spearheading the introduction of a new range of FMCG product lines. The role requires a hands-on leader with a proactive mindset--someone who leads by example and is willing to step into any role as needed, even covering for a delivery driver if necessary.

Key Responsibilities:Operations & Team Leadership

Lead all operational functions including warehouse, logistics, fulfilment, and customer service. Manage and motivate a small operational team to deliver consistent service and quality. Liaise with offshore back-office teams for administrative and reporting support. Oversee dispatch and order cycle management to ensure on-time delivery and service reliability.

Buying & Supplier Management

Own the full buying function across fresh produce and ambient product ranges. Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers. Negotiate commercial terms, control pricing structures, and ensure supply chain continuity.

FMCG Product Line Development

Drive the launch and distribution of new FMCG product lines targeting both B2B and B2C customers. Coordinate with internal teams for branding, packaging, and marketing strategies. Support expansion into private label opportunities and wider retail partnerships.

Commercial Oversight

Monitor weekly financial performance, including revenue, margins, and operational costs. Contribute to the budgeting process and ensure efficiency across procurement and logistics. Identify areas for cost savings, process optimisation, and increased revenue streams.

Candidate Profile:

Minimum 5 years' experience in a general management or senior operations role, preferably in

wholesale, fresh produce, or FMCG

. Strong commercial acumen with experience in buying, negotiation, and inventory management. Track record of launching or scaling new product lines in competitive environments. Comfortable working in fast-paced, hands-on roles with a problem-solving mentality. Proven leadership skills with a practical, team-oriented approach.
