Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a small friendly team which provides a logistics delivery service, based at our Distribution Centre Estover Plymouth.



This post will work as part of the logistics team that picks, drives and delivers goods from our Distribution Centre to all 11 hospital floors, covering duties from 07:30 to 17:00.



Demonstrable experience working in a goods-inwards / stock control situation would be a distinct advantage, as well as good IT skills, as the team will be using the Trust's electronic stock control system to capture electronic signatures.



The ability to work on own initiative (prioritising own workload if necessary) is a key element of this role.



Applicants would need to be physically fit as the post involves moving, lifting and delivery of medical consumables.



This post also requires a current driving license, and a forklift license would be an advantage, though training can be provided.



Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.



To work within a small team providing a stock picking , delivery, distribution and collection service within the Distribution Centre and around the Derriford Hospital site.



To make deliveries to offsite locations using departmental transport.



To offload (and load) delivery vehicles using the departmental forklift, and to move goods around the site using the forklift as required.



To provide basic support to other members of the Goods Inwards team in the event of sickness or absence

Accept deliveries into UHP warehouse & Goods-In



Carry out Forklift daily health & Safety checks.



Carry out Transport daily health & Safety checks.



To stow warehouse stock in line with Trust FIFO guidelines.



Pick and pack requested medical products as per agreed schedule and point of care requirements.



To be aware of stock expiry dates and ensure that shortest dated stock is issued first to customers.



To deliver caged/palletised/loose goods to all Trust units and departments, ensuring they are left as directed in a safe and appropriate place.



To ensure all required delivery paperwork is correctly sorted, completed, and filed by the end of each day.



To ensure all types of urgent deliveries are made as appropriate and directed.



To collect and return goods to Goods Inwards as required.



To assist with the preparation of goods for delivery to units including the breakdown of mixed cages and palletised deliveries as required.



To assist with the matching of internal delivery paperwork to goods coming in and putting these goods in the relevant location for onward delivery.



To ensure the return of empty cages/pallets to the correct storage locations on level 2 for collection by NHSSC, Warehouse or other authorised users.



To ensure that all provided delivery equipment is used correctly and safely.



Support Perpetual / Adhoc / Planned stocktaking, ensuring accuracy against system levels.



To load and deliver goods to offsite and external locations using the departmental delivery vehicle as required and directed.



To ensure the delivery vehicle is kept correctly fuelled and maintained, reporting any faults to line management as required.



To maintain the vehicle logbook following the correct procedures as directed by the Transport Policy.



To use the departmental forklift to load and offload delivery vehicles as required.



To use the forklift to move items around the Trust site as required and appropriate.



To ensure the forklift is garaged appropriately and kept charged.



To stand in for any member of the Supply Chain team as directed, ensuring deliveries into the department are checked, signed for and processed correctly, and relevant onward delivery paperwork has been raised.



To stand in for the Estates Storekeeper when directed, in providing a basic level of issuing and ordering of Estates stock held.



To collate, pick and deliver the drape, gown and pack requirements of the theatre locations around the Trust when directed.



To stand in for the Daily Delivery Store person when directed, in providing a basic level of issuing and ordering of daily delivery consumables around the Trust.



To be responsible for one's own personal Health and Safety, as the post involves wearing the correct personal protection equipment and also involves the manual handling of possibly heavy items.



To participate in the introduction of improved working procedures to establish and maintain total quality standards to agreed levels.



To operate office machinery and equipment provided as appropriate to task allocated.



To provide backup for other staff in the event of absence or leave as appropriate.



To take and record telephone messages and act upon them accordingly.



Daily, maintain working areas in a clean, tidy and safe condition.



To report all faults, errors and exceptions to line management as appropriate.



To maintain good working relationships with colleagues, staff and delivery drivers
