Overview
Our client is part of a leading consulting, engineering, and construction management company who provide environmental solutions for public and private clients world-wide, working on some of most challenging and complex projects from conception to completion.
To support continued growth, they are looking for a Geotechnical Consultant to support the delivery of project assignments. The ideal candidate will be an early careers professional with a background in desk-based assessments and site investigations, and they'll be seeking to grow their technical and project management skills. They should hold a full UK driving licence and be willing and able to travel throughout the UK for project assignments.
There may also be options for overseas travel to support on our clients' projects globally.
Responsibilities
Supervision of site investigations including:
Oversight of drilling contractors performing works using various drilling techniques - windowless sampler, Cable Percussive, rotary, sonic and Cone Penetration Testing
Oversight of contractors performing trial pitting including machine and hand excavated pits
Logging to British Standards / Eurocode and preparation of environmental and geotechnical logging records in OpenGround
Performing field testing using methods such and hand penetrometer, hand held Dynamic Cone Penetrometer and environmental screening using Photo-Ionisation Detector
Sampling of soils for environmental and geotechnical laboratory analysis
Groundwater monitoring using dip meter, interface probe
Groundwater sampling using disposal bailers and low flow methodologies
Ground gas and soil vapour monitoring using gas analyser and PID
Preparing desk study reports and conducting site walkovers for Tier 1 reports and due diligence purposes
Preparing Tier 2 reports including factual reporting on site investigation works, data screening, preliminary risk assessment
Requirements
BSc or higher (preferably post-graduate qualification, such as MSc) in geology, geo-environmental or geotechnical engineering type discipline
Minimum 3 years' relevant industry background
Understanding of relevant contaminated land guidance (LCRM), NHBC, CIRIA, Eurocode and British Standards
Excellent organisation, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
Ability to work independently as well as within a project team with excellent problem solving and writing skills
Background using geographical information systems (GIS) is desirable
Knowledge of geotechnical software packages such as Slide, PDisp, XDisp, Settle3D, Roclab, Openground, FEM software packages or similar
Must possess a UK driving licence and valid passport and be willing to travel within the UK and, occasionally, overseas
