Job Description

The Role:

The Grade 3 Logistics Operative (Fixed Term) will be responsible for operating material handling equipment (MHE) and overseeing the day-to-day activities within the Logistics function. This role involves supporting the Logistics Supervisor and stepping in as a deputy when needed. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain high operational standards and ensure that area targets are consistently achieved.

We are looking for someone with proven experience in leading teams and operating MHE, along with a strong commitment to health and safety. The role demands a strategic mindset and excellent organisational skills to ensure operational efficiency and alignment with outload and production schedules.

This position is offered as a

3-month fixed-term contract

, with the possibility of extension depending on business needs.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:



Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of yourself and others, strictly adhering to all safety procedures and protocols while operating MHE or performing manual handling tasks. Safely and efficiently operate MHE to move materials and finished goods within the logistics function, ensuring team members maintain the same high safety standards. Carry out and oversee daily MHE maintenance checks, including inspection of parts, fluid levels, and reporting any faults or maintenance needs. Load and unload materials to and from pallets, racks, and vehicles using MHE, ensuring proper handling, stacking, and safe practices among team members. Manage the daily picking and preparation of customer orders for nationwide despatch and delivery. Support inventory control activities, including stock counts, verification, and reporting of discrepancies to supervisors or Stock Analysts. Complete accurate documentation related to operations, inventory, material movements, and staff absence or holiday management. Communicate and collaborate effectively with warehouse colleagues, supervisors, and other departments to maintain efficient workflow and fulfilment of orders. Assist with labelling, booking in inbound goods, and relocating stock to appropriate storage locations. Pick and decant products for tempering, operate tempering units, and complete any paperwork as required. Maintain warehouse cleanliness and support recycling duties, ensuring GMP standards are upheld; operate cardboard and film balers and refuse compactors as required. Undertake any other duties as required, demonstrating a proactive approach and leading by example.

Skills Required:



Proven experience in team leadership and staff development. RTITB or equivalent qualifications relevant to the MHE utilised (desirable). Strong commitment to safety, with the ability to operate all MHE safely and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Ability to work effectively within a team, following instructions and collaborating to achieve operational goals. Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate inventory management and proper handling of materials. Previous experience in a logistics environment (desirable). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work confidently with colleagues, management, and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities. Knowledge of SAP or Warehouse Management Systems (desirable but not essential). Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general IT literacy.
