The Opportunity

Working under the guidance and supervision of the experienced team, you will develop your existing knowledge and skills in energy modelling and assist with the development of energy and sustainability strategies for new build and existing buildings through the following types of work:

  • Building physics and parametric model services
  • Building performance and operational energy optimisation
  • Certification and compliance including NABERS, Passivhaus and Building Regulations
  • Health and wellbeing advice and guidance
  • Net zero and whole life carbon services
  • Sustainability design and ESG services
Our Building Engineering team is growing rapidly, and we are delighted to be seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of building physics specialists in our group. The team is all about applying the principles of physics to deliver masterplans, and buildings that feel good, are resilient to climate change, operate efficiently and are kind to the environment. You will help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you will have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we will give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

Is the role right for you?

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Environmental, Built Environment, Sustainability, Energy, Architectural or Building Services Engineering with a predicted/achieved grade of 2.1 or above, ideally with a specialism in Building Physics and/or energy modelling
  • You will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of building physics, particularly in relation to heat transfer, energy, thermal comfort and natural ventilation. A particular focus on understanding and the modelling of energy consumption and carbon emissions in buildings and a good technical understanding of factors that affect it
  • Ability to use dynamic thermal modelling software such as IES:VE, DesignBuilder or similar
  • A keen interest in developing digital design tools to help automate engineering processes
  • A working knowledge of climate-based daylighting analysis, operational energy calculation using TM:54, sustainability rating tools such as NABERS, BREEAM and life cycle carbon costing would also be beneficial
  • Ideally you will have an understanding of Parametric Modelling Techniques (Grasshopper/Dynamo or similar), or at least one modern programming language (e.g. Python, C#, VB). An understanding of Engineering Optimisation Techniques, the principles of structured programming and basic knowledge in the application of Machine Learning would also be desirable
  • Planned and organised approach to work and meeting deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for a career for analysis in the built environment underpinned by an understanding of our sector and work

  • Creative approach to problem solving and effective communication
  • Aptitude to work on your own initiative and be proactive
