SLR's well established water team boasts a wealth of expertise across hydrology, hydrogeology, water resources, geochemistry, flood risk and drainage, offering expert services across a range of sectors including renewable energy, mining and minerals, energy networks, industry and the built environment. Due to a steadily increasing workload we currently have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated graduate consultant to join our busy team in Nottingham.




With client instructions across the UK and Ireland, this opportunity is an excellent prospect for the successful candidate to gain experience across a broad range of projects in different geographic areas.

The Role

Working alongside the existing team and with support from senior colleagues, you will have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of tasks including:


Identification of site constraints relevant to the water environment to inform the planning of new development sites. Undertaking technical risk-based assessments, such as Flood Risk Assessments, which need to demonstrate an understanding of various hydrological site settings, the wider environment and the mechanisms for flooding from different sources. Interpretation of numerical data and calculation of hydrological processes, including the estimation in-channel flows and surface water runoff and assessing infiltration rates. Outlining how surface water runoff from new developments can be sustainably managed within a site, including the sizing and siting of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), to prevent contamination of the water environment and reduce the risk of flooding. Contributing to the preparation of reports such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) water chapters, identifying potential risks to the wider water environment. Undertaking site visits to understand site topography and ground conditions and to identify watercourses and other environmental factors.
The nature of the role means that there may be occasional site work away from home for short periods. Given that some sites may be fairly remote, a full UK driver's licence and access to your own vehicle would be beneficial.

About You

If you are interested in applying, we would like to hear from you. In order to be considered, we would envisage that you are able to demonstrate the following:


A relevant Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or similar. Familiarity with the water environment, hydrology, flood risk, fluvial geomorphology etc. through completion of modules, coursework and/or relevant work experience. Experience using GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS. Proficiency in Microsoft Word. Strong IT skills, together with strong numerical, written and verbal communication abilities. A desire to learn, and the ability to problem solve and work independently when required. Willingness to work within multi-disciplinary teams and towards set deadlines.
In addition to the above, the following criteria would be considered advantageous:


A relevant Master's degree or postgraduate qualification which focuses on the water environment, hydrology, flood risk, fluvial geomorphology etc. A full UK driver's licence.
