Job Description

We are seeking thoughtful and detail-oriented candidates with a background in accounting to provide efficient and accurate support within the Grants Team, working closely with the Finance and Community Gateway Teams.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference to people's lives as part of a small team based at our Truro Office. Training on PHB processes and the expected PHB application standards will be given.

This role is central to the assessment and administration of Personal Health Budget (PHB) applications and would suit someone with a strong understanding of the health or social care context, a structured mindset with excellent attention to detail and confidence in handling purchasing and financial systems.

Work Base:

Boscawen House, Truro, TR1 3BN. Flexible working is available through conversation and agreement. The organisation reserves the right to require you to work at such other place of business of the organisation as the organisation may from time to time reasonably require.

Salary:

26,883 FTE pro-rata per annum (10,898.51 - 14,531.35 depending on hours)

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, with reasonable flexibility, 15-20 hours a week. Remote working possible after successful training

Duration:

Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:



Proven ability to assess applications with a person-centred approach, balancing policy requirements and individual needs Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in liaising with referrers to clarify details or request supporting information and handle grants related enquiries Familiar with referral pathways, care planning, and holistic support approaches Comfortable navigating a multi-step decision-making process and applying consistent judgement High level of accuracy in recording and managing complex data (Excel-based PHB Tracker) Excellent organisational skills and confidence in maintaining accurate digital records Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Outlook), as well as Microsoft Teams Experience using Xero, Hubdoc, Pleo and Formsite or similar platforms plus high accuracy in financial tracking, reconciliation, and record-keeping Analytical mindset with awareness of financial accountability and audit compliance Comfortable working with invoices, payment confirmations, supplier details, and audit trails Ability to handle multiple transactions simultaneously and ensure data is accurately captured in all internal systems A methodical, dependable approach with strong task prioritisation skills A collaborative approach, inclusive of strong administrative skills, proven ability to follow defined processes Able to work independently and take ownership of tasks
Since 2022, Age UK Cornwall & The Isles of Scilly, Partners (including Chaos Group, Volunteer Cornwall, Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change and others) and Integrated Care Board have been working together to improve access to services, with the aim of reducing demand on acute services. Age UK Cornwall administers one-off Personal Health Budgets (PHB) on behalf of the Integrated Care Board (ICB). A one-off PHB is used to enable a safe hospital discharge; to prevent unnecessary hospital admission or re-admission and is an integral part of a care and support plan which enables improved health and wellbeing over an extended period of time. The main function of this role is to ensure that applications to the PHB fund are completed; in line with our established process, liaise with partner organisations to resolve any queries and progress the applications through to the Grants Payable Coordinator within set time-frames
