We are looking for an experienced and dedicated groom to join our team at Elysian. This role involves the daily care and management of our horses and ponies, ensuring their well-being and supporting the wider operations of the farm.
Elysian is home to a Therapy and Learning provision, where we work closely with children and young people in a safe and supportive environment. As such, all staff are subject to a rigorous safeguarding assessment, including an enhanced DBS check and reference verification.
Role Overview
The Groom will be responsible for the
day-to-day care of equines
, maintaining high standards of horse welfare and yard management. The role also involves liaising with people inside and outside of the provision, supporting equine learning sessions with learners as needed, and assisting with veterinary and farrier care.
Key Responsibilities
General Yard & Equine Care
Acting as a leader and role model for others in the care and handling of horses and other farm animals.
Following and giving instructions to ensure the effective running of the yard, including liaising with supervisors, owners, farriers, veterinarians, and other equine professionals.
Maintaining records such as daily care checklists, vaccination schedules, worming protocols, and other administrative tasks related to horse management.
Ensuring the provision is license compliant (Horse Riding Establishment licence) and compliant with all relevant legislation.
Communicating with horse owners as needed and assisting with planning and loading for transport.
Supporting equine learning sessions as required, depending on experience and ability.
Day-to-Day Yard Duties
Mucking out stables and ensuring clean bedding.
Supporting all types of equine sessions, including hacking or driving with learning.
Providing hay, feed, supplements, and water to all horses.
Cleaning and maintaining feeding equipment, buckets, and tubs.
Grooming, tacking up/untacking, and bathing horses.
Supporting learners and staff to learn and undertake horse care tasks.
Cleaning and maintaining horse equipment and tack.
General groundwork, including hand-walking, lunging, and turnout/bringing in (depending on experience).
Yard maintenance, including sweeping, washing down, and general cleaning.
Administering basic first aid to horses as needed.
Handling horses for the veterinarian, farrier, or trainer during treatments or assessments.
Attending events, competitions, and clinics as a groom, ensuring the well-being of the horses.
Essential Requirements
Previous yard work experience.
Confident general horse care skills, including experience with large performance horses.
A positive attitude, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with colleagues, learners, owners, and professionals.
Strong awareness of safety and best practices in horse care.
Awareness of safeguarding and professional practise
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
A
relevant Equine or Animal Care qualification
is preferred.
Experience in
supporting equine learning sessions
or therapeutic work with horses is beneficial.
Working Hours & Salary
Up to
38 hours per week
, typically including
one weekend day
.
Part-time hours will be considered for the right candidate.
Working hours to be

based on availability and needs of the yard.
