Job Description

BeFriends are seeking a suitable applicant to join our team and help run our young person's groups on two evenings per week. The groups run for two hours each evening.

The post holder will be expected to work directly with young people in two small groups. These groups will engage in age-appropriate activities, e.g., crafts, games, films, outings, baking, etc.

Internal: Staff and Volunteers.

External: Young people and families, referring agencies including, but not exclusively limited to: education, Social Work, Health Services, Voluntary agencies, and funders.

JOB PURPOSE:



Ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of BeFriends group work activities and services across Dundee.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with young people and their families

Work with referred children and young people in a wide range of settings, motivating and encouraging them to put their ideas into practice and to develop their own opportunities and become less socially isolated

To plan and facilitate group work activities which supports young people to improve their social skills, confidence and self-esteem

Negotiate ground rules and group agreements which outline appropriate levels of behavior and expectations between staff, volunteers, young people and any other participants.

MAIN DUTIES:



Working directly with young people in BeFriends Groups. This may include 1-to-1 work during group times.

Working closely with young people who have been referred to BeFriends, their families, and volunteer befrienders.

Ensuring Befriends are continually striving towards

positive outcomes

for young people by collecting relevant outcome information.

Identifying and promoting suitable activities for young people.

Assisting with the preparation and implementation of group work, ensuring the opinions and views of young people are taken into consideration, and recorded, to guide the future development and direction of BeFriends.

Assist in developing and maintaining effective relationships across the voluntary sector, statutory sector including Social Work, education, police, CLD etc, to ensure BeFriends are at the heart of the work with young people in Dundee.

Ensuring

robust monitoring and evaluation record keeping

takes place for each service user and volunteer to ensure accurate reporting.

The post holder will be involved in all aspects of group work service delivery and must ensure that the work the organisation undertakes is of the highest quality.

Identifying good practice across the voluntary sector and using this to develop BeFriends group work with young people.

Assist with maintaining positive media/social profile.

Responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the work of BeFriends comply with current legislation and policy framework.

Be involved with the marketing and promotion of the work of BeFriends.

Undertaking any other duties appropriate to this position as allocated by line manager.

General



Contribute to quality assurance which will ensure compliance with existing quality systems the leading to the achievement of the Good Governance Award.

Be aware of any areas of risk and advise on improvements.

Be committed to the work of BeFriends and promote team working.

Work in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures.

Awareness of issues impacting the voluntary sector.

Person Spec for Group Sessional Worker



Essential - National 5 English and Maths C or above

Desirable - NVQ or equivalent in Youth and Community Work

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Experience of working face to face with young people in a youth work setting Experience of delivering, promoting, and developing, personal, social, and educational programmes, activities, and opportunities with and for young people Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting young people Ability to organise and deliver programmed youth activities Able to develop effective working relationships with young people and adults in a variety of settings Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative The ability to communicate with a wide range of people including young people, staff, and volunteers An understanding of safeguarding and child protection legislation and practice High personal integrity and motivation Commitment to continuous personal development Respect for the community Willingness to work flexibly to ensure service continuity General IT skills using Windows PC and specific IT skills using MS Office inc. Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook
Key responsibilities of role

To assist planning and delivery of youth groups with young people including centre-based, detached and community settings to enhance their personal and social development via informal learning To provide opportunities to young people to support their personal and social development through peer leadership programmes To promote resilience, independence and self-efficacy through an ongoing process of identifying young people's personal attributes, challenging self-limiting beliefs, raising aspirations and promoting their capacity for change To communicate effectively, in a timely manner with appropriate stakeholders to enhance the support being provided To contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate procedures, guidelines and systems to improve the delivery of group work and development of peer leadership To keep informed of local and national issues relating to young people and issues relating to befriending networks. Generate enquiries and referrals to partner agencies, further education, and employability providers to increase young people's access to further support, education, employment, and training

Pay: 12.60 per hour
