We are recruiting an experienced and reliable Handyman / Maintenance Operative to join our care home team. This role is essential to ensuring our service remains safe, compliant, well maintained, and presented to a high standard in line with
CQC requirements
.
This position is suited to someone who takes pride in their work, plans their time effectively, completes jobs properly first time, and understands the importance of accurate record keeping in a regulated care environment.
The Role
You will work under the guidance of the Registered Manager and will be responsible for maintaining the fabric, safety, and presentation of the building and its services.
This includes the interior, exterior, equipment, infrastructure, and security of the premises, ensuring all works meet current legislation, health and safety standards, and CQC expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
High quality decorating work, including proper stripping, preparation, filling, sanding, and painting of bedrooms and communal areas
Carrying out planned and reactive DIY repairs and general building maintenance
Following an externally provided Legionella management programme and completing associated checks and records
PAT testing and maintaining accurate logs
Fire alarm testing, fire drills, routine fire safety checks, and documentation
Health and safety checks of the building and equipment, with clear reporting of issues
Maintaining the security of the premises
Supervising and liaising with external contractors
Completing all required paperwork accurately and on time, including maintenance logs, compliance records, and checklists
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a dependable, organised, and skilled individual who understands the standards required in a care setting.
Essential requirements:
Minimum of 2 years experience as a Handyman / Maintenance Operative within a commercial, building, healthcare, or care environment
Proven ability to complete decorating and maintenance work to a consistently high standard
Strong time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and complete tasks efficiently
Confidence in completing paperwork, maintaining compliance records, and supporting audits
Knowledge of health and safety (guidance will be provided to support working in line with CQC requirements)
Ability to work independently and take full responsibility for managing your workload
Enhanced DBS with barred list check (if not already in place, this will be completed on behalf of the successful candidate and will be chargeable)
