The Head Barista will oversee daily operations at the coffee bar, leading a team of Baristas to ensure exceptional customer service, quality coffee preparation, training, and efficient workflow. This role entails a combination of leadership and hands-on tasks, collaborating closely with the Head of Coffee to ensure overall success in all aspects related to coffee.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow company recipes and standards to prepare and deliver beverages that meet Hot Numbers coffee standards as set by the Head of Coffee.
Ensure all coffee is brewed correctly, equipment is well-maintained, and coffee beans are fresh and properly stored.
Manage the bar's flow of operations to ensure efficiency and productivity.
Set a standard and lead by example, including engaging with customers, taking and fulfilling orders, and offering personalised recommendations.
Provide excellent customer service, greeting customers and ensuring they feel welcomed.
Work with the Cafe Manager and Assistant Manager to maintain an excellent level of cleanliness, organization, and hygiene.
Inspire and collaborate effectively with the front-of-house team, delegate tasks, and ensure every staff member delivers exceptional customer service.
Contribute to developing and expanding the coffee menu by experimenting with flavor combinations and introducing seasonal offerings such as Cold Brew and Iced Tea.
Collaborate with the Training Team and Head of Coffee to train and supervise Baristas, covering brewing techniques, latte art, espresso extraction, workflow, and customer service.
Collaborate in running regular training sessions in-store with FOH/Barista team members as instructed by the Head of Coffee.
Job Related Skills:
Deep understanding of speciality coffee, including origins, varieties, processing methods, and flavour profiles.
Confident in operating espresso machines and other coffee brewing equipment with precision and care.
Ability to develop brewing recipes, adjust grind settings, and calibrate espresso machines to achieve desired taste and consistency.
Stay up to date with the latest trends, techniques, and innovations in the speciality coffee industry.
Knowledge, Personal Attributes & Skills Required:
Proficient in multitasking, including customer engagement, order fulfilment, drink preparation, and supervising staff.
Confidently educate and train Baristas and Front-of-House staff on coffee-related matters, fostering a culture of continuous learning and positive motivation.
Prioritize exceptional customer service.
Skilled in troubleshooting and finding solutions in high-pressure environments to maintain service flow.
Conduct regular performance evaluations, offering constructive feedback on training standards
Availability and hours of work:
This is a full-time job role. The successful applicant would be looking to dedicate at least 6 months to the role due to our employee onboarding training program here at Hot Numbers. Unfortunately if you have plans to travel or study, this role is not for you. Our full-time contracts are 32 hours. You will be required to have weekend availability.
