The Head Caretaker is responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and care of various outdoor spaces and properties managed by the Parish Town Council. This includes Playgrounds, Town Hall, Community Centre and others. The post is vital in ensuring that these spaces are safe, clean, well-maintained, and pleasant for public use.
The specific duties of the Head Caretaker shall include but not be limited to:
- To clean and tidy the public areas and council offices within the council buildings, including cleaning and janitorial duties between and after hiring's, to the reasonable satisfaction of the Town Council and its Clerk.
- To liaise with the Administrative Assistant to ensure that cleaning equipment and materials are adequately stocked and reordered in a timely manner.
- To work closely with the Environmental and Cemetery Warden to share the work load within the hours available and provide effective cover.
- To liaise with the other staff, professional property advisors, maintenance contractors and to meet the needs of hirers and users of council buildings within the obligations of the council. To be the primary nominated call out person and key holder in the event of emergencies or calls from the emergency services.
- To be a fire officer and if needed the first aider for the buildings ensuring that the fire alarms are checked weekly and that Health and Safety requirements are met.
- To arrange furniture in the 'Mayors Parlour' (Town Hall) for meetings and council events. To put out and replace chairs and tables as required at the Community Centre.
-To deputise the overseeing of weddings, civil partnerships and baby naming in the Town Hall.
- To process litter and other refuse from the buildings and their environs effectively so that it is collected by the District Council.
- To ensure the security of the buildings within the terms of the Council's security policy and for locking and unlocking the buildings in a timely manner.
- To monitor and adapt the seasonal heating requirements of the buildings. To report any damage that cannot be put right within the routine work of the caretaker, to the Town Clerk. To undertake training as necessary.
- To cover the work of the Environmental and Cemetery Warden, including and maintenance of the Town Council notice boards, during periods of holiday and absence. This will include putting up agendas to meet statutory notice requirements, displaying the minutes and clearing off old and/or commercial notices.
- To undertake basic DIY and maintenance at both the Community Centre and The Town Hall.
- To check the New Road, Budds Close and Old Woodstock play areas when faults have been reported
- To inspect and take photos of any damage reported to the Town Council regard Town Council property and report back to the office.
-To undertake such other tasks as you may be required to carry out from time to time as requested by the Town Clerk.
The Skills & Qualifications:
- To be physically fit for the role and familiar with safe manual handling practices.
