We are looking for a Head Chef with a proven record of delivering consistently and with a passion for helping others.

Human Kind Cafe in Billericay is a charity committed to tackling loneliness and bringing communities together. We are looking for a talented chef to continue our high standards with a delicious vegan and vegetarian menu.

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of high-quality, nourishing vegan and vegetarian dishes, while helping lead a positive, inclusive kitchen environment. This role combines culinary creativity with a commitment to our social mission, supporting skill development, sustainability, and community connection. They will also be responsible for the management of all aspects of the kitchen and its staff.

We need a chef who is interested in great produce with real a passion for vegan/vegetarian food, who is flexible, and who supports our objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY AREAS



Plan and prepare seasonal, sustainable vegan and vegetarian menus Lead service and ensure smooth kitchen operations Oversee food prep, stock rotation, and waste management Order ingredients and supplies as needed Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness Support and mentor all kitchen staff. Handle all kitchen staff issues such as attendance and sick leave Oversee maintenance of kitchen equipment and organise repairs when needed Make sound business/financial decisions regarding stock and equipment Contribute to our inclusive training programme for community members Support ad hoc community training events Open up the cafe and/or lock up when required.

EXPERTISE REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE



Proven experience as a Head Chef or a strong Sous Chef ready to step up Creativity and superior culinary skills Level 3 or above in Catering or equivalent qualification The ability to constantly perform well in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment Excellent knowledge of Health and Safety regulations Solid financial acumen, including the ability to manage a budget A passion for plant-based cooking and sustainable food practices Strong communication and leadership skills to lead and motivate a team Creative flair and attention to detail A team player with a calm, can-do attitude Commitment to Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory behaviour Willingness to support occasional evening events

Working Hours

:

Full time role, Monday - Sunday flexibility, plus required evening availability for events
