Lovett Care is seeking a dedicated culinary professional to lead our kitchen team and deliver high-quality, nutritious meals to our residents. This is an excellent opportunity to work in partnership with a caring and dedicated team, making a real difference in the lives of our residents. As Head Chef, you will oversee all aspects of our catering service, ensuring that residents enjoy delicious, well-balanced meals tailored to their dietary needs. Your leadership and expertise will contribute to the overall well-being and satisfaction of our residents while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.
Plan and prepare varied, nutritious menus for approval by the General Manager, considering special dietary needs and maintaining records.
Cook daily meals for residents and team members, as well as catering for special occasions like birthdays.
Work with approved suppliers to manage stock, ensuring quality ingredients within budget.
Supervise kitchen team members, providing guidance and training as needed.
Oversee the supply and quality of purchased goods, ensuring timely replenishment.
Attend and encourage participation in team meetings.
Ensure high standards of food hygiene and safe handling practices.
Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures for food safety compliance.
Maintain a clean kitchen through an organised cleaning rota.
Adhere to Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH assessments.
Promote safe working practices to protect residents, visitors, and team members.
Maintain and report any issues with kitchen equipment.
Follow Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations.
Act professionally and respectfully towards residents and visitors, ensuring effective communication.
Foster a positive and collaborative team environment.
What skills are we looking for?
Proven experience as a Head Chef or in a similar leadership role within catering.
Strong menu planning and meal preparation skills, with the ability to accommodate special dietary requirements.
Excellent leadership and team management abilities, including training and mentoring team members.
Budgeting and stock management expertise, ensuring quality ingredients within financial constraints.
Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and health regulations (including COSHH assessments).
Ability to maintain kitchen equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, fostering a positive work culture.
Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality meals.
Professional catering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ, or equivalent).
Level 2 or 3 Food Safety and Hygiene Certification.
Certification in textured modified food preparation and moulded food serving (desirable).
Knowledge of Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations.
