The Black Venus is a successful country pub and restaurant located in the picturesque village of Challacombe, on the edge of Exmoor. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional dining experiences in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Summary

We are seeking a Head Chef to lead our kitchen team at the Black Venus. The Black Venus benefits from an expanding kitchen garden. We want someone to fully utilise this, working with our gardener to create exciting seasonal dishes. You will work with our outstanding local suppliers from Exmoor to create innovative dishes that showcase our own produce and what the area has to offer.

Responsibilities

Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation. Develop and implement seasonal menus that reflect our own and local produce and culinary trends. Manage kitchen staff, providing training, support, and leadership to foster a positive work environment. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized kitchen. Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery. Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed to maintain efficient operations.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Head Chef or similar role in a restaurant or pub setting. Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety regulations, and kitchen management. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively. Creativity in menu development and presentation with our own produce. Strong communication skills to interact with staff and customers.
