Big Tree Gardeners has been maintaining residential and commercial gardens across South London for over a decade. We provide high-quality garden services to properties in Bromley, Chislehurst, Beckenham, West Wickham, Croydon and the surrounding area.

As we continue to grow, we're looking for a Head Gardener to take a leading role in managing day-to-day operations, overseeing garden quality standards, and supporting the development of our team.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Head Gardener, you'll be responsible for overseeing the delivery of all maintenance work across multiple sites and ensuring the smooth running of the gardening operation. This includes planning schedules, coordinating staff, maintaining quality standards, and acting as the main on-site representative for the business.

Manage the daily operations of the gardening division, ensuring teams, schedules, and logistics run smoothly across all sites Coordinate site schedules and allocate resources efficiently Support and train gardeners, helping them improve skills and performance Ensure gardens are maintained to the highest horticultural standards Act as the first point of contact for clients and the management team Monitor quality, provide feedback, and report progress to management Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and development of new team members Oversee stock, tools, and materials to ensure teams remain well equipped
This role combines hands-on gardening with leadership, planning, and quality management responsibilities.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

We're looking for a highly experienced gardener with leadership and organisational ability; someone who enjoys managing people as much as creating beautiful gardens.

The ideal candidate will have:

5+ years of professional gardening experience, including team leadership Strong horticultural knowledge and attention to detail Experience managing multiple sites and planning workloads Great communication skills with both clients and colleagues A practical, hands-on approach and ability to motivate others Reliability, initiative, and a commitment to maintaining high standards

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 5 years professional gardening experience Proven experience leading or managing teams Excellent plant knowledge and practical skills Full UK driving licence Strong organisational and communication skills

HOURS & HOLIDAYS:

Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm No weekend work 20 days annual leave, plus bank holidays Mandatory time off over Christmas period

Do you hold a full, clean UK driving licence with at least five years of driving experience? Do you have proven experience managing a team of gardeners while also being confident working independently when required? Do you have experience managing and optimising revenue from a regular round of gardening clients, while maintaining strong customer relationships and satisfaction?
