To manage the maintenance and development of the golf club's 18 hole and 9 hole courses and clubhouse grounds as agreed in discussion with the greens convener and clubs committee's.
Duties
Producing a maintenance and improvement plan for the golf course, and organising, implementing and participating in the planned programme of maintenance work including greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, rough and all other areas of the golf course.
Producing an annual budget in line with the agreed programme of maintenance and improvement works.
Making all necessary purchases of supplies and materials within approved budget.
Maintain a close working relationship with the Greens convener and the club manager.
Training, motivating and directing all members of the green staff.
Managing the staff holidays to ensure appropriate staffing levels during peak season.
Following appropriate procedures on any disciplinary issues involving any members of the green keeping staff.
Organising the service and maintenance of machinery and ensuring all is set up and used in an appropriate manner.
Identifying and controlling any weeds, pests and turf diseases and disorders.
Keeping abreast of modern advances in materials, machinery and green keeping techniques.
Keeping up-to-date with all Health & Safety regulations and be able to complete risk assessments on all machinery operations and course maintenance activities.
Qualifications & Experience
The head green keeper should be an excellent team leader, highly motivated, able to make decisions and able to operate the full range of equipment associated with the post. Ideally the head green keeper should hold the following qualifications:
Minimum SVQ level 2 or equivalent in sports turf management.
A sound knowledge of green keeping practices.
PA 1, 2, 6A spraying certificates.
A good knowledge of fertilisers and infestation/preventative treatments and awareness of when they should be applied.
Knowledge of irrigation systems.
Possess technical green keeping and agronomy skills together with immaculate standards of course preparation and a keen eye for presentation and detail.
A good knowledge of Health & Safety in the workplace.
Able to work the clubs flexible weekend rota system.
Full UK driving licence.
Good communication skills.
It may be useful, but not essential, to have:
Chainsaw certification.
Current first aid certificate.
