This is a pivotal role, providing strategic and operational financial leadership across the organisation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of financial management, including the preparation of statutory accounts, annual audit, financial forecasting, payroll, budgeting, compliance with charity and VAT regulations and pensions administration along with offering financial support across all areas of the business.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To lead and manage all areas of accounts
To advise on strategic financial planning and management
Responsible for producing the Management Accounts
Provide timely and accurate financial reporting to support key decision-making at senior and Board level.
Oversee the preparation of year-end statutory accounts, VAT returns (including annual composite VAT rate calculations), annual audit and other financial submissions.
Manage the Institute's charity status through appropriate VAT management and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Work collaboratively with commercial and membership teams to support financial planning and enhance profitability.
Lead and develop finance policies and processes across the organisation to ensure efficiency, compliance, and transparency.
Managing Payroll and assisting with managing the pension scheme administration
Assisting in preparation of the company business plan and budgets
Ensuring legal compliance with accountancy procedures
Full ownership of forecasting and cash flow analysis.
Leading the annual audit and post audit journal and being main point of contact with the Auditors
Support the Chief Executive in advising the board of trustees' on finance & compliance matters
To fully manage the Accounts Team and co-ordinate with external financial contractors as required.
Support the Chief Executive with both regular and ad-hoc reporting and financial analysis.
To undertake any reasonable request outside of this job description
Carry out all duties and responsibilities in line with the Institute's Articles of Association and Bye Laws
SPECIALIST TECHNICAL
Acting as supervisor of the accounting programmes
Knowledge and understanding of Sage accounting systems
Proficient in use of Excel spreadsheets
GENERAL
To maintain confidentiality on payroll and other sensitive financial matters
To give attention to detail ensuring that work produced is of a high quality and to deadline
Demonstrate the necessary level of accuracy and correctness in dealing with information and data
Undertake relevant training or development as required by the post
COLLABORATIVE WORKING
To work collaboratively as part of the Institute of Hospitality team
To promote the aims and objectives of the Institute
To carry out other duties as required by the Institute
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
EXPERIENCE
Substantial experience of producing financial accounts for year end audit and publication is essential as is monthly management account production. Knowledge of business, education, charity and not for profit sectors and an understanding of the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries are desirable.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES
Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or qualified by experience with a strong track record in a similar role.
Proven experience in financial leadership within a charity or membership organisation (desirable).
Strong understanding of charity accounting, VAT regulations, and pension administration.
Demonstrable knowledge of Sage accounting packages.
Ability to work collaboratively and communicate appropriately across teams and with senior stakeholders.
Payroll experience and understanding of Inland Revenue requirements
An ability to prioritise activities and work to agreed targets.
Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute suggestions/ideas to improve its efficiency.
A hands-on, flexible approach to the work involved and able to work well in a team and under pressure. Able to work without close supervision and help set own performance targets with a commitment to the mission and values of the Institute of Hospitality.
