ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

As the Head of Engineering, you will be a key member of our leadership team, reporting directly to the Managing Director. Your role will be critical in shaping the future of our company and driving technical excellence across our diverse projects. The current team is made up of Design Engineers, Software Engineering and Project Managers.

The ideal candidate will be a technical and analytical engineer with a background in design engineering to be able to assist the team with the technical workload. They will also need good people management skills to manage a large and diverse multi-disciplined engineering team.

  • Leadership and management of the UK Engineering function.
  • Forecasting of engineering resources to support business requirements.
  • Deployment of suitably qualified and skilled engineers to support project / business deliverables.
  • Conduct strategic workforce planning.
  • Planning and subsequent recruitment of engineering talent.
  • Champion departmental training and development in line with the engineering and product strategy needs of the business.
  • Accountable for the quality of engineering design deliverables.
  • Chairing of design reviews as required.
  • Review and improve departmental engineering processes, procedures, and documentation, to ensure right-first-time design for product performance and manufacturability.
  • Define and implement new engineering processes and procedures.
  • Ensure that design deliverables are produced to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Drive the team towards a shift left ethos to promote design quality through validation and verification of our solutions.
  • Ensure that high levels of technical excellence and customer satisfaction are maintained at all times.
  • Define, communicate, and drive Comtech\'s technical vision, ensuring alignment with product and business strategy.
  • Define the internal R & D strategy for systems and inherent subsystems.
  • Manage the annual internal R & D budget, forecast spend, report monthly on progress with regards to actuals versus forecast versus percentage complete.
  • Define the various system / subsystem technical roadmaps required to achieve the overall product strategy.
  • Implement product lifecycle management across the Engineering product portfolio.
  • Create metrics (KPI\xe2\x80\x99s) to measure the performance of the Engineering function from a resource, quality and delivery perspective.
  • Work with your peers in Quality to assess criteria for failures in engineering quality and devise a strategy to resolve.
  • Produce weekly / monthly reporting packs as required.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
  • Degree educated in an Engineering based discipline or relative industry based experience.
  • Proven record in a Head of Engineering role
  • Engineering background in electro - mechanical / SATCOM / RF systems
  • Strong Leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrable experience leading a team of design engineers.
  • Hands-on engineer comfortable with efficiently prioritising own workload with leadership duties.
  • Highly technical engineer with an innovative approach to design and experienced managing the whole life cycle
  • Good working knowledge of Electronics / Electrical / Mechanical Engineering
