Head Of Events – Commercial & Growth

Radlett, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Finlayson Media Communications Ltd (FMC) is an award winning, dental communications company that connects the dental community and industry through a myriad of powerful channels encompassing online, print, webinars, social media, exhibitions, and awards. FMC's events are attended by thousands of dental professionals and companies targeting the dental market.

The role:

FMC are seeking a commercially minded business leader to own and scale the full P&L for our dental events and awards portfolio. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role that goes beyond sales management -- you'll be accountable for growth, margin, pricing, and product evolution across a suite of high-profile B2B events and awards serving the UK dental community. You will lead a cross-functional team spanning sales, marketing, and delivery, setting the commercial rhythm and driving performance improvement across the portfolio.

Responsibilities:

Commercial Strategy & Leadership

Own and deliver the strategic plan for the Events & Awards P&L -- including revenue, gross margin, and reinvestment decisions. Translate board-level growth ambitions into actionable quarterly revenue and GM% plans. Set and evolve event pricing, yield, and packaging strategy to maximise lifetime value. Oversee sponsorship and exhibition sales activity, ensuring consistent delivery against revenue targets. Provide leadership, motivation, and mentoring to the wider events team to achieve high performance and collaboration.

Business Development & Partnerships

Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, prospective clients, professional bodies, and associations. Lead negotiations for high-value sponsorships and exhibition packages across events and awards. Collaborate with operations, marketing, and content teams to ensure commercial offerings align with audience needs and market trends. Develop repeatable playbooks for rebook cadence, account management, and upsell pathways.

Financial & Performance Management

Full P&L ownership: forecasting, budgeting, pricing, and cost control for the events portfolio. Partner with Finance to model ROI, investment cases, and margin improvement plans. Set and track KPIs across sponsorship and exhibition revenue streams. Analyse market performance and competitor activity to inform strategy and pricing. Use HubSpot dashboards to manage pipeline visibility, accountability, and decision-making.

Stakeholder & Industry Engagement

Represent FMC at industry meetings, dental shows, and professional networking events. Work with key industry stakeholders, associations, and educational partners to enhance the brand's profile. Champion collaboration between commercial, marketing, and event delivery teams to ensure excellence across all touchpoints. Act as a portfolio spokesperson and thought leader, shaping how FMC's events deliver measurable value for the dental industry.

Team & Culture

Lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team covering sales, partnerships, and delivery. Build clear operating rhythms including pipeline reviews, rebook sprints, pricing forums, and GM% reviews. Embed a customer-centric approach focused on long-term relationships and delivering value for sponsors and exhibitors. Create a culture of ownership, data-driven decisions, and continuous improvement.

What we need from you:

Skills & Experience

Essential

5+ years of senior commercial experience within B2B events, exhibitions, or awards, ideally within healthcare, dental, or medical sectors. Demonstrated ownership of an events/business P&L >1m, with measurable improvements in yield, rebook, and GM%. Proven track record of delivering significant sponsorship and exhibition revenue growth. Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills at senior level. Experience designing and executing pricing strategies, segmentation, and value packaging. Experience in setting and managing P&L budgets and commercial KPIs. Strategic mindset with the ability to balance short-term revenue with long-term brand growth. Proven team leadership and people development experience.

Desirable

Knowledge of the dental market. Familiarity with HubSpot as a sales and CRM management platform.

Key Attributes

Commercially accountable leader with a bias for ownership and decision-making. Entrepreneurial and innovative thinker with a results-driven approach. Confident communicator and industry ambassador.
