The Opportunity


The primary focus of the Finance Director is to provide the financial, contractual and legal governance and controls, and manage the operational services to support the delivery of the organisation's mission and goals. This is a key senior position and will form part of the strategic management group.


Key objectives for the role include:


Lead on the successful delivery of all financial and legal matters relating to the delivery and operations Provide the management team with robust monthly management and statutory accounts, which will include both a historical record of performance and forecast information Ensure adequate controls are in place and maintained for financial management of capital and revenue expenditure and invoicing and payments Maintain high quality reports relating to cash flow forecasts, monthly accounts and forecasts, and other information as required for the board, including UK Government Oversee the annual audit process, ensuring compliance with Government funding processes and State-Aid compliance and reporting requirements Provision of timely and accurate information to the Board to allow them to meet fiduciary responsibilities Input into the development of business cases for new products and services that are identified to support the goals and mission Support the commercial sustainability of the operating plan and its overall ambition and delivery strategy Responsible for UK Taxation compliance; and partner accounting processes/procedures Develop and maintain relationships on financial and reporting matters with funding bodies including government and partners Manage the HR function, providing line management to the HR manager and ensuring compliance with applicable employment laws and practices Manage the Operations Manager, ensuring all office activities, including events and facilities matters are handled promptly and effectively Manage the outsourced IT function, ensuring it is effective to the requirements of the business, provides uninterrupted service and is value for money

Background and Experience:


Fully qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ICAS) Post qualification demonstrable relevant experience in a similar role Management experience of a multi-disciplined professional services team Experience of managing legal compliance, contractual and commercial analysis Experience in both practice and industry and working with boards essential Experience and knowledge of financial management in a public sector commercial environment (desirable but not essential) Knowledge and experience of underwater business environments (desirable but not essential) Has proven ability to interact and develop respect with a broad range of stakeholders and senior level management Has proven ability to interact and develop respect with and range of stakeholders and senior level management Has the proven ability to facilitate and support collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders Is strategically aware and action orientated Is a proven self-starter, capable of working under own direction Has demonstrated / commands respect from peers Has demonstrable leadership qualities Has demonstrable experience of leading people High level of integrity and discretion in dealing with sensitive information A keen attention to detail
