Reporting to the SGS UK Managing Director, the Head of Health Science will be a core member of the Health & Nutrition business and will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the UK CDMO site.

The site provides a range of services which enable clients to bring drug products through the various stages of clinical development; from pre-formulation work to formulation, dosage form design and optimisation.

The Head of Health Science will form an integral part of the SGS United Kingdom Senior Management Team and contribute towards the identification and realisation of relevant local and corporate objectives

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive the local strategy to deliver positive sustained commercial performance.
  • Provide sales and commercial leadership across all activities within respective line of business for both local and international clients
  • Close liaison with Health & Nutrition global management team and affiliate network to support international clients and expansion programme beyond existing geographies
  • Take overall responsibility for the delivery of relevant financial metrics, ensure objectives are met through effective business planning, efficient and appropriate use of resources, and by the adequacy of operational capacity and capability to deliver valued services to customers
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate organisation structure that encourages employees to take ownership of business goals at appropriate levels, with the flexibility and capability to react positively to changing customer requirements, compliance requirements and growth opportunities and other external influences.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, we would expect you to have solid experience as a senior leader within the sector with full P&L responsibility. You will lead and manage significant change programmes and think strategically with the ability to develop informed and progressive business plans.

You will also demonstrate;
  • The ability to identify and capitalise on business development opportunities to grow sustainable revenues at acceptable margins and to ensure operational capacity to deliver new services
  • Proven track record of successful tendering and negotiating profitable and robust contract terms
  • Experience of managing within budgetary guidelines and ensuring effective cost control mechanisms appropriate to the needs of the business
  • Experience of leading sizeable and diverse teams of people across a large geographical area
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable business sectors including, market trends, statutory obligations, new innovations and applicable economic and political influences
Desirable
  • Experience of project managing and integrating corporate acquisitions
  • Second degree or equivalent.
  • Membership of relevant industry body/ committee/ steering group
  • Working knowledge of contract & employment law
Additional Information

Onsite presence is required for the role.

Travel as required for client/ internal meetings and presentations to promote capabilities/ initiatives and effect positive communication - Full driving license required.
