Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive
Head of Operations
to oversee the smooth, safe and efficient running of our building, estate and public-facing operations. This role is a key part of the Senior Management Team and is central to maintaining a positive internal culture and exceptional visitor experience.
You will lead multiple operational departments, manage contracts and service providers, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the organisation's strategic development.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Lead, manage and support the operations, technical, front-of-house, and bar/catering teams.
Chair weekly event meetings and ensure the seamless delivery of all events and venue activity.
Maintain effective operational systems and oversee the central venue booking system including support with hire rate negotiations and complex bookings.
Building, Estate & Facilities Management
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the building and estate, including all service and maintenance contracts.
Manage the rental contract and landlord responsibilities
Lead planned maintenance, capital projects and long-term building development planning.
Work with external contractors to ensure all works are completed safely with RAMS and appropriate checks in place.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Hold the position of
Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
and manage all licensing responsibilities.
Ensure all Health & Safety systems are in place, up to date and adhered to, including risk assessments, evacuation procedures, training, incident reporting, first aid provision and fire safety.
Act as main contact for local authority licensing, Surrey Police licensing and Surrey Fire Service.
Review business insurance annually alongside the senior team.
Finance, Contracts & Suppliers
Manage operational budgets and negotiate contracts for utilities, security, repairs, maintenance and other services.
Oversee contracts for gas, electricity, water, waste management, alarms/monitoring and telephony.
Identify opportunities for greater efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Sustainability & Partnerships
Play a key role/lead the organisation's environmental strategy as an active member of the Green Team, supporting work towards Net Zero and sustainability targets.
Manage the relationship with key exhibitors and private hirers, attending monthly pre-event meetings.
Leadership & Culture
Play a key role within the Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic planning and organisational development.
Support high-quality staff training and ensure consistent systems and procedures across departments.
Promote a positive, collaborative and efficient internal culture.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience in leading teams
Knowledge of health and safety regulations
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
Facilities Management qualification
Experience in the maintenance and upkeep of a facility and knowledge of listed buildings
Familiar with RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements).
