The role
Our Head of Preconstruction is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire tender process, ensuring that bids are strategically sound, financially viable, and meticulously prepared to increase the organisation's chances of winning contracts. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, leadership, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

JOB DESCRIPTION:




BID STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT:




Develop and implement strategies for winning bids and tenders; Conduct market research to understand industry trends, competitors, and potential opportunities; Gain a deep understanding of the client's requirements and expectations.

WORK WINNING PROCESS MANAGEMENT:




End-to-end management and implementation of the entire tender process from initial expression of interest to final submission and follow up; Ensure all bids comply with the client's requirements and organisational policies; Develop and manage timelines to ensure timely submission of bids; Lead and coordinate a team of professionals including estimators, proposal writers and other stakeholders; Facilitate effective communication among internal teams to gather necessary information and input for the bid; Engage with external stakeholders such as directors, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and align on the bid; Training and Development - Provide training and development opportunities for team members to build their skills and knowledge in tendering processes; Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to increase the chances of winning future tenders.

BID WRITING/QUALITY DOCUMENTATION:




Work with Bid Writers to draft, review, and edit bid documents, ensuring they are compelling, accurate, and tailored to the client's needs; Ensure that all necessary documents, including financial submissions, technical proposals, and supporting materials are properly compiled; Ensure the bid documents are of high quality, error-free, and professionally presented to McCann branding standards; Clarifications and negotiations - respond to client queries and participate in negotiations post-submission; Conduct post-bid reviews to gather insights and improve future tender processes; Collect feedback from clients and stakeholders to refine and enhance future bids; Development of bespoke award submissions.

ESTIMATING AND PRICING:



Work with finance and operational teams to develop accurate cost estimates and pricing strategies; Ensure that all Estimators follow tender processes; Ensure that appropriate reviews and levels of authority are implemented; Identify potential risks associated with the bid and develop mitigation strategies; Ensure all legal and contractual obligations are considered and adhered to in the bid documentation; Win/Loss Analysis - analyse the outcomes of bids to understand strengths and weaknesses, and implement lessons learned.

MARKETING:



Manage all of McCanns internal and external marketing media streams; Develop bespoke branding, social media and PPC campaigns; Creation of marketing and communications plans including defining target audiences, positioning the brand, and selecting appropriate marketing channels; Event management of corporate industry events including Highways UK, CECA Midlands, HEA, CIHT, ILP etc.; Complete all Digital Marketing including:

SEO/SEM Management

: Implementing strategies for search engine optimisation (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM) to increase online visibility.


Social Media Management

: Overseeing the company's presence on social media platforms and engaging with the audience.


QUALIFICATIONS:




Degree educated (ideally English, Law, Business Studies, or equivalent construction qualification). Journalistic / professional writing background. Advanced MS Word skill and proficient in MS Office.
