Grade 8 Scale Point 22: FTE 33,699. Actual salary based on Term Time only: 28,384


Contract Type:

Full-Time - 37 hours per week Term Time only 39 weeks plus 4.4 re holiday (43.4 weeks total)



The nursery is open from 8.45am - 3.15pm. (This allows for time in the morning to set up and time after school to prepare)


Role Overview





We are looking for a dedicated and passionate individual who shares the staff and Governing Body's belief that each child within our Pre-School and School is an individual and we are here to support and enable each and every one to reach their potential, whilst at the same time, enhance and enrich their love of learning with a diverse curriculum.





To undertake the direct management, staffing and supervision of the Pre-School To ensure that the setting meets all statutory requirements as issued by Ofsted To work with the administrator with regards to finance arrangements Responding to the needs of the Pre-School by allocating funds appropriately and as agreed by the Governing Body. To be responsible for supervising all Pre-School staff, setting them clear objectives around their roles and responsibilities. Monitoring and assisting staff in completing their Key children's records as and when required. Designing personal development plans to ensure their continued professional development and improve practice. To ensure that the Pre-School staff are aware of all Pre-School policies and procedures, with specific reference to Health and Safety, Lone Worker and Child Protection policies and procedures relating to personal, clinical and organisational risk To attend to own continued professional development To represent staff on the Governing Body To ensure that all children's personal records and the Learning Journals, as part of a Key person system, are maintained and reviewed via observations in their progress and development whilst attending the Pre-School To establish close links with parents with a view to develop good practice in the Pre-School To work with staff and in partnership with parents to monitor and evaluate all areas of the Pre-School provision on a regular basis, ensuring that information gained is used to forward practice where appropriate To work with the Early Years Lead to ensure links across the Foundation Stage Curriculum To discuss individual children's progress and development with the Early Years Leader. To support children with additional needs via the relevant agencies To meet regularly (at least monthly) with the Early Years Leader to discuss planning, systems and best practice To ensure that children's likes and interests are used to produce and deliver a well-balanced play based curriculum. Attention being paid to ensuring early identification and support with Speech and Language difficulties and other additional needs To work with the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership, Education Department (e.g. Educational Psychologist, schools), other full day care settings, sessional settings and professionals from all key disciplines to ensure a co-ordinated and accessible support service available to parents, carers and families To attend meetings and groups that may have a direct influence on the running of the Pre-School, financially and or through practice To review and update policies and procedures in conjunction with the administrator To ensure confidentiality of information at all times whether at work or away from work

What You Need to Succeed


To be successful in this role you will need:


Essential Qualifications




NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Suggested: Level 3 Certificate in Childcare, Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or other relevant qualification in nursery work or childcare. GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A to C) including English and Maths


Essential Experience





Two years of working with children in a supervisor role in either a nursery/pre-school setting and/or a qualified teacher


Skills and knowledge




Good literacy and numeracy skills Good organisational skills Ability to build effective working relationships with pupils and adults Experience of creating inspiring learning for children Skills and expertise in understanding the needs of all pupils Knowledge of how to help adapt and deliver support to meet individual needs EYFS knowledge relevant to the role, and ability to apply this effectively in supporting colleagues and pupils Excellent verbal communication skills Active listening skills The ability to remain calm in stressful situations Personal qualities Enjoyment of working with children Sensitivity and understanding, to help build good relationships with pupils A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times Commitment to safeguarding pupils' wellbeing and equality
