As part of this next growth phase, we are recruiting a
Head of Projects (HVAC)
who can drive project profitability, structure, team performance, and client confidence at every level.
Role Overview
The
Head of Projects
will be the operational and commercial lead for all HVAC project delivery across Emtec. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, at target margin, and to exceptional quality standards.
You will lead a team of Project Managers, Coordinators, and site-based personnel, ensuring they operate with structure, urgency, and ownership. You will also work closely with finance, service, sales, and senior leadership to ensure seamless handovers and margin preservation from pre-construction through to closeout.
This role requires strong commercial and financial acumen, operational leadership, and a solutions-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Operational Leadership
Take full ownership of the entire project lifecycle, from project handover to client sign-off and final account.
Ensure every project has a program, financial forecast, and risk register in place from day one.
Implement and enforce the Project Handover & Pre-Start Checklist on all jobs.
Lead weekly project review meetings to track milestones, costs, quality, and client communications.
Oversee all documentation, RAMS, commissioning records, O&M files, and project close-out materials.
Team Management & Accountability
Lead and manage a team including Project Managers, Coordinators, and site teams.
Clearly define roles, set KPIs, and hold team members to account.
Proactively manage underperformance and skill gaps within the team.
Coach and develop junior staff to take on more responsibility and grow into future roles.
Financial & Commercial Control
Own project-level P&Ls with accountability for achieving budgeted margins.
Monitor and manage cost-to-complete forecasting, procurement, and variation tracking.
Implement purchase order controls and structured authorisation.
Work closely with the Finance Manager to ensure accurate monthly reporting and cash flow projections.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Be the primary escalation point for clients during project delivery.
Maintain excellent communication and service levels to build long-term relationships.
Ensure engineers and subcontractors are properly briefed, resourced, and prepared before deployment.
Systems & Reporting
Ensure all projects are visible and tracked in JobLogic and other dashboards.
Lead on adopting digital tools and dashboards to improve project visibility, forecasting, and task ownership.
Provide a weekly update to senior leadership on project performance, risks, and interventions.
Collaboration & Improvement
Work cross-functionally with Sales, Service, and Finance to deliver joined-up results.
Identify root causes of project failures or margin erosion and implement corrective action.
Champion continuous improvement, standardisation, and proactive project governance.
Support the transition into renewables and low-carbon projects, including heat pumps and solar PV.

What we're Looking For:
Experience:
Proven leadership in delivering HVAC or mechanical projects up to 1M+ in value.
Experience in managing multi-project portfolios with full P&L accountability.
Strong leadership and coaching skills with an ability to build high-performing teams.
Proven project management experience in M&E, FM, construction, or critical environments.
Experience in developing new project opportunities and managing a P&L.
Demonstrable experience in leading and managing a team.
Experience in creating, presenting, and managing bids and proposals.
Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, drawings, commissioning, and compliance.
Strong understanding of project management methodologies, project tracking tools, spreadsheets, and cloud-based systems.
Commercial awareness and strong financial acumen.
Managing budgets, risk, and contracts (JCT, NEC desirable).

Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (degree preferred).
