Job Description

Are you passionate about advancing the world of academic journals and books? Are you a publishing professional with a strong background in STM? We are working with a prestigious scientific college as they are looking to appoint a new Head of Publishing to lead the Publishing team and drive the strategic direction of their publishing portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and nurture strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including College Editors, Editorial Boards, Authors, the Books Committee, and publishing partners
  • Assume accountability for the overall performance of publishing operations, including the management of the College Publishing Team
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Strategic Communications to ensure the publishing portfolio is in harmony with the wider College objectives
  • Translate the publishing portfolio strategy into annual, title-specific development plans in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Stay current with the latest developments and shifts in the publishing industry to inform and lead portfolio progress
  • Provide guidance to Editors, Boards, and the Books Committee on policy matters, ensuring alignment with commercial considerations and governance policies
  • Oversee the services provided by current publishing partner, ensuring compliance with SLAs and agreed-upon KPIs
We are ideally looking for someone with a strong understanding of scientific publishing, preferably coming from a society environment, and with demonstrable journals publishing experience (although book experience is also advantageous).

You should demonstrate familiarity with data analysis and metrics related to article submission, and publishing software and platforms used in academic journals, including manuscript management systems such as Scholar One and Editorial Manager.

If you\'re excited to take the next step and lead a successful Publishing team and shape the future of their portfolio, this could be a perfect role for you!
