Role Overview
The Head of Tutoring will be responsible for identifying, onboarding, and developing top tutor talent, maintaining high standards of quality and compliance across our network. This is a dynamic and hands-on role that combines recruitment, quality assurance, coaching, and relationship management.
You will be instrumental in shaping the calibre of tutors who represent LessonWise, supporting both the company's immediate growth and long-term vision to build the most intelligent tutor-matching system in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Identification
- Source and recruit outstanding tutors across a range of subjects, identifying both established professionals and high-potential "diamonds in the rough."
Performance Monitoring & Coaching
- Review trial and lesson recordings to assess teaching quality, identify strengths and gaps, and coach tutors to continually raise their performance.
Relationship Management
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with tutors, acting as their key point of contact for support, feedback, and professional development.
Platform Expertise
- Develop expert knowledge of the LessonWise platform, demonstrating its features to tutors and providing hands-on assistance when needed.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Oversee onboarding under strict safeguarding protocols, ensuring enhanced DBS, TRA, reference, and ID checks are completed, verified, and renewed on schedule.
Data Management & Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date tutor records, including performance data and qualifications, in the CRM and shared folders. Support the development of LessonWise's intelligent tutor-matching system through structured data capture.
Proactive Tutor Selection
- While the intelligent matching system is being built, proactively identify and suggest suitable tutors for client requests, maintaining an internal tutor selection register.
Experience & Requirements
We are looking for someone who brings a blend of educational credibility, operational judgement, and a passion for exceptional learning experiences:
Qualified Teacher Status, with strong classroom teaching experience across UK curriculum subjects
Leadership background such as Head of Department, SENCO, DSL-trained, or other senior pastoral or academic roles
Proven success improving student outcomes and applying data to drive teaching quality
Experience developing educators through observations, coaching, and structured CPD
Strong safeguarding knowledge with a track record of safe recruitment and compliance management
Comfortable operating in fast-paced environments where accountability and continuous improvement are the norm
Familiarity with online tutoring delivery and remote teaching best practice
Confident working cross-functionally to support sales, customer success, and product innovation around the tutoring experience
