We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health & Safety and Compliance Officer to oversee and enhance our safety culture and regulatory compliance across all logistics operations. This role is critical in ensuring that our company adheres to health, safety, environmental, and legal standards, while promoting a safe and efficient working environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities:Health & Safety:
Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in line with current legislation and best practices.
Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections across warehouses, transport hubs, and offices.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and produce detailed reports with recommendations.
Deliver health and safety training and inductions to staff and contractors.
Ensure all safety equipment and PPE are available, maintained, and used correctly.
Liaise with external bodies (e.g., HSE, fire services) as required.
Compliance:
Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant logistics, transport, and environmental regulations.
Maintain accurate records of audits, inspections, permits, and certifications.
Support internal and external audits, ensuring timely resolution of any non-conformities.
Keep up to date with changes in legislation and industry standards, advising management accordingly.
Collaborate with HR and Operations to ensure policies are communicated and enforced consistently.
Qualifications & Experience:
NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (essential).
Proven experience in a health & safety or compliance role within logistics, transport, or warehousing.
Strong knowledge of UK/EU health & safety legislation and logistics compliance standards.
Excellent communication, training, and report-writing skills.
Ability to work independently and influence others to adopt safe practices.
Desirable Skills:
ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 experience.
Internal auditing qualifications.
Experience with fleet compliance and driver safety programs.
Familiarity with digital compliance tools and reporting systems.
