EQUANS are recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environment Apprentice to join their team at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a 24 month fixed-term contract. On offer is a competitive salary, and benefits package.
The apprenticeship role will support the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function within the facilities management in a dynamic hospital environment. You'll gain hands-on experience while working alongside experts to promote a safe and compliant workplace. You'll also complete the Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician apprenticeship qualification via online learning.
WHAT WILL YOU DELIVER?
Assist in preparing, reviewing, and updating risk assessments and method statements
Conduct site safety inspections under supervision
Support monitoring of COSHH controls and hazardous materials
Help with the reporting and investigation of accidents, near misses, and incidents
Contribute to monthly HSE performance reports
Participate in the review of contractor documentation for construction and lifecycle projects
Assist in creating and distributing team safety briefs
Assist with waste management documentation
Promote 'Behavioural Based Safety' and a positive safety culture
Liaise with frontline teams across services (cleaning, catering, portering, hard FM, etc.) to ensure safe working practices are embedded
Learn to communicate HSE matters effectively across departments

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
5 x GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A-C/9-4, including English, Maths and Science
Willingness to work in a trainee role to attain a range of skills
Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
A flexible and adaptable approach
Proactive approach to problem solving.
A genuine interest in Health, Safety & Environment
This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
