Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Assistant at Highfield, you will support the clinical team in delivering safe, high-quality care to our patients. Your work will include carrying out NHS health checks, phlebotomy, performing ECGs, administering immunisations under PSD, assisting with wound care, and promoting healthy lifestyles. You'll also play an important role in maintaining equipment, managing clinical stock, and supporting infection control processes all within a friendly and supportive team environment.

Job Summary:
The Healthcare Assistant will work under the guidance of the nursing team and other clinicians to provide safe, effective and high-quality care to patients. The role includes assisting with a wide range of clinical duties, promoting health and wellbeing, supporting the smooth running of the practice, and contributing to the wider team effort.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Clinical Duties:
Perform phlebotomy
Carry out NHS Health Checks (including new patient and learning disability checks)
Record and monitor vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature)
Conduct ECGs
Carry out blood glucose testing and urinalysis
Undertake wound care and dressing changes as required
Administer immunisations under Patient Specific Direction (PSD)
Chaperoning
Remove sutures and clips
Provide lifestyle and health promotion advice (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management)
Support with infection prevention and control processes
Ensure appropriate clinical coding and accurate record-keeping
Administrative/Operational Duties:
Use EMIS Web to record patient data accurately and appropriately
Maintain clinical areas, equipment and stock levels
Participate in audits, data collection and quality improvement activities
Follow protocols relating to infection control, clinical waste, and health & safety
Handle patient queries within scope of competence and escalate as needed

Qualifications and Experience
Essential (training and support will be available the appropriate candidate)
Phlebotomy
Chronic disease reviews such as hypertension, diabetic foot checks etc
NHS Health Checks
Wound care and dressings
ECGs
Urine testing and analysis
Immunisations and B12 injections (administered under a Patient Specific Direction)
Desirable
Care Certificate or equivalent experience. NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care
