Working at New Road Surgery in a Healthcare Navigator role is a little different to how people imagine a Healthcare Navigator/Receptionist role to be.
You will be an important part of the daily triaging team, dealing with all incoming calls and in person queries, but at New Road Surgery you will be fully supported in all decisions by a triaging clinician. The triaging clinician is based in the same room as the Healthcare Navigators, providing support and guidance for every appointment request. After you have taken some basic information (you will be trained in initial triage information gathering), the triaging clinician will then advise you of the most appropriate appointment booking to make, or other advice to offer the patient.
This could range from any of the following, ensuring all our appointments are used as efficiently as possible:
-You may be asked to book the patient in for an urgent on the day face to face or telephone appointment with either the duty GP, Paramedic or ANP
-You may be asked to book the patient in for a routine appointment with either a GP, Paramedic, ANP, Pharmacist or a specialist member of the nursing team
-You may be asked to 'signpost' the patient to a more appropriate service e.g. you may need to make a referral for the patient to the community pharmacy, advise they attend A & E, ask them to self-refer to physio, or even to call an ambulance
We introduced our current triage system 2 years ago. Our appointment booking system continues to work very smoothly, with high patient satisfaction. Our patients are very familiar with how our appointment system works and our team of Healthcare Navigators feel very supported in their roles, knowing they have a clinician on hand at all times. Every day is busy, but you get to spend it with a great team, with the hours passing quickly.
We are looking to ideally recruit for two new part time Healthcare Navigators, but may consider one full time, dependent on what hours they can cover.
