History



Founded in 1987 by a courageous survivor of domestic abuse, our charity originally began as the West Lancashire Women's Refuge. Our services have developed over the years and we now offer a comprehensive range of services to women, children and men affected by domestic abuse. By providing a safe and supportive environment, we empower survivors to take control of their lives and rebuild their sense of self and well-being. We provide vital support and services to survivors of domestic abuse, as well as raising awareness and promoting education in the community. By focusing on all aspects of domestic abuse we have a wide-ranging impact on the issue and help to create a safer and more supportive environment for all individuals in West Lancashire.

As an independent charity, we remain committed to empowering survivors and fostering a community free from domestic abuse.

Our mission is to build hope and confidence with people affected by domestic abuse to live a future without fear.

What we do



We currently provide the following services:

24-hour safe accommodation and support for women and their children

Resettlement support for families being rehoused

Advice and support for males affected by domestic abuse

Healthy Relationships Programme

As a Healthy Relationships Worker, you will work with children and young people across schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRU'S) and Special schools to deliver an age-appropriate educational programme. It will raise awareness and increase knowledge and understanding of healthy relationships in families.

The program aims to increase young people's knowledge and understanding of abusive and unhealthy behaviour's in relationships and families. Empowering pupils to identify characteristics within both positive and unhealthy relationships and developing respect for themselves and for others. Supporting young people in recognising when relationships are unhealthy and understanding their rights, options, and choices to manage these situations.

Group Work planning and Delivery



To organise and facilitate group work programmes for CYP, which will include a learning development approach, in all age groups. To work with CYP to ensure that all aspects of their needs are assessed as part of the group work programme in relation to safeguarding, including risk and safety planning, emotional & physical health & wellbeing, education, and social & family networks. To empower and support children and young people in their decision-making process and in taking control of their own lives. This will be achieved through addressing their needs around self-esteem, self-worth, and learning about the impacts of domestic abuse, as well as providing a safe environment for them to talk about their own traumatic experiences. To develop relationships of trust and support with all ages of CYP, helping them to gain confidence and to increase their understanding of abusive and unhealthy behaviours in relationships and families. To develop materials that will create a plan of work specific to children and young people living in domestic abuse. To take all reasonable steps to ensure that work with the children is as appropriate with regards to children's cultural and religious backgrounds and any special needs.

Safeguarding



To work in partnership with all agencies in relation to safeguarding children following both local and national approaches around EHA, TAF and Child Protection Protocols and any other relevant / approved approaches. Ensuring children and young people are kept safe by adhering to Safeguarding procedures and implement them as appropriate. To keep up to date with, and implement, requirements of the Law and any other Legislation relating to work with children, such as the Children Acts 1989 and 2004, and Child Protection Policies and Procedures.

Partnership Working



To take collective responsibility in educating and informing the local community, Police, Schools, Social Services and other organisations about the impact & needs of children affected by domestic abuse. To raise awareness around issues affecting CYP by providing regular updates of changes in legislation and local & national initiatives in relation to Safeguarding Children & Young People.

Monitoring and Reporting



To keep up-to date written and electronic records of work with children and to contribute towards providing statistical information for funding agencies.

Other requirements



Maintain a working knowledge and comply with The Liberty Centre policies and procedures including health and safety. Engage in regular supervision sessions, training and staff meetings. Work as a member of the team to ensure effective delivery of service and individual work plans, including working across teams where appropriate. Be responsible for personal learning and development, keeping up to date on research, relevant legislation, policy and practice, and other literature relevant to service users and domestic abuse. At all times represent The Liberty Centre in a professional, approachable and service user focused manner, ensuring that confidentiality is observed.
We respond to the need of individuals and some of the tasks are therefore unpredictable. It is therefore expected that all staff members will work in a flexible way when required, undertaking tasks that are not specifically covered in this job description. In addition, other duties at the same responsibility level may be interchanged with or added to this list at any time.

Due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the work, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring check.



The role will be based at our office in Skelmersdale and will require travel to our other local offices and is term time only.



Requirements:



An appropriate qualification in teaching, Youth & Community / Social work, Counselling etc. or relevant qualification Experience of delivering group work programmes to children and young people using a person centred and trauma informed approach. Experience of partnership or multi agency working. An understanding of issues relating to domestic abuse that affect children and the impact. Ability to plan, facilitate, evaluate, and record group and individual sessions with children and young people. The ability to communicate effectively with children of different ages and backgrounds, and help them to communicate their experiences. To have excellent time management and organisational skills. Ability to use own initiative and work as part of a team.
