Transport Planner

We are seeking a reliable and experienced

Transport Planner

to join our family-run haulage business. The successful candidate will play a key role in booking and managing HGV loads, ensuring efficient and compliant operations, and maintaining smooth communication between drivers, customers, and management.

Key Responsibilities

Book and manage loads via Amazon Relay, Courier Exchange, Velocity, and other relevant platforms Quote jobs competitively, and negotiate profitable rates Communicate regularly with drivers and customers to confirm bookings, provide updates, and resolve issues Plan daily routes and oversee all vehicle movements, ensuring compliance with DVLA and DVSA regulations Monitor driver hours and rest periods according to tachograph rules and the Working Time Directive Maintain accurate digital records of transport activities, including bookings, ETAs, PODs, and vehicle utilisation Coordinate with customers and site teams to ensure timely delivery of goods and address any concerns promptly Monitor and respond to real-time operational issues such as vehicle breakdowns or traffic delays Input and manage key data for accurate reporting and performance metrics Develop and issue detailed load plans Ensure vehicle cleaning procedures are adhered to Make confident decisions and reprioritise work quickly Manage local customer complaints and incidents professionally Maintain strong customer service orientation and build support with clients

Requirements

Minimum 1 year of experience in transport planning or logistics operations Practical experience using Amazon Relay, Courier Exchange, Velocity, or similar platforms Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively Excellent verbal and written communication skills Solid understanding of UK transport regulations, including driver hours and rest requirements Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changing priorities Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential Previous experience managing articulated curtain-sided trailers is advantageous
