Essential:
HLTA status (or equivalent Level 4 qualification).
Significant experience supporting children or young people with ASC and/or moderate learning difficulties.
Confident delivering lessons or learning activities under the direction of a teacher.
Knowledge of strategies and tools for supporting SEN (e.g., visual timetables, sensory integration, augmentative communication).
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, with a caring, calm, and consistent approach.
Desirable:
Training in Team Teach or other positive behaviour management techniques.
Experience using PECS, Makaton, or AAC.
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures in specialist settings.

Duties
Assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons tailored to individual student needs, including children with autism and other disabilities
Support children with special educational requirements, ensuring they are fully included in classroom activities
Provide one-on-one assistance to children, including toddlers, to promote their social and academic development
Help organise classroom materials and resources for effective lesson delivery
Support behavioural management strategies to maintain a positive learning environment
Foster communication between children and staff, encouraging social interaction and confidence building
Monitor and record student progress, reporting any concerns to supervising teachers
Assist with organising activities that promote developmental skills such as communication, motor skills, and socialisation
Requirements
Experience working with children, particularly in special education or with individuals with disabilities or autism
Knowledge of toddler care and early childhood development is desirable
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues
Compassionate approach with the ability to work patiently and empathetically with young learners facing various challenges
Previous experience working with people with autism or other special educational needs is preferred but not essential
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Organisational skills to manage classroom resources efficiently
A recognised qualification in childcare, special education needs (SEN), or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory
