Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Easteden Ltd care group if you are an experienced Adult Mental Health professional or Learning Disability qualified professional with experience at a senior level in the care home environment. Easteden have four care centres across the Western trust area and Mullaghcarn View Care Centre is our new bespoke 17 bed purpose built care facility specifically providing care to clients with adult mental health needs and learning disability needs. We wish to recruit a dynamic and experienced nursing professional with an active interest in the highest standard of Care who will support and help shape the nursing staff team to achieve their best possible potential. The appointed candidate will receive support at all levels from senior management.



Current NMC registration required as Adult Mental Health/ Learning Disability with 5 years post registration experience essential, experience in the care home sector preferable or in a similar setting.



Registered RMN/ LD, first level nurse.

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

Satisfactory enhanced Access Ni disclosure certificate.

Satisfactory pre-employment references and medical checks

A management qualification or 3 years relevant managerial experience in past 5 years.

Driving licence and use of vehicle

Clearly understand the role and expectations of RQIA in achieving compliance with the Standards

Have a genuine interest in promoting the highest standards of care for the residents placed in Mullaghcarn View Care Centre and their families.

Understands legislative requirements : DHSSPS minimum standards and other standards set by professional bodies.

The suitable candidate will possess good judgement, problem solving and decision making skills.

Have good organisational and time management skills.

Have basic computer knowledge

Be willing to take on additional training as needed to ensure they can fulfil the job requirements effectively.

Main Purpose of Job:



The Home Manager has responsibility for overseeing the operational day to day management of the service ensuring that the Care Centre has continued compliance with relevant legislation. Working in partnership with colleagues in the senior management team to ensure the provision of a high quality service enabling individual needs and organisational priorities to be met in accordance with available resources. The Manager will work alongside the team on a supernumerary basis where he/she will be expected to work within the office and to take charge of all the departments within the home.

The following core responsibilities and requirements are expected of the role of the Home Manager:



Promote Positive Team Culture and Team Working



To foster and promote a team culture of enquiry and learning that enables individuals to openly question, reflect and learn from their practice.

To provide effective leadership in ensuring that nursing standards and practices comply with Easteden Ltd Policies and procedures. Direct/inform staff to sign the home policies and procedures and provide clarity when needed.

To ensure that the team understand their roles and are working within the company's clinical governance strategy and promote excellence in clinical practice in line with RQIA Standards.

Involve residents in monitoring and commenting on the quality of the service provided in the home leading to user focused quality improvement initiatives.

To provide overall leadership as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team through the provision of strong and effective clinical leadership in partnership with other lead multidisciplinary clinicians in formulating treatment plans.

Communicate with all necessary external agencies in supporting service user's care plans and outcome measures. Monitor the monthly audits of care documentation and delegate effectively to the nursing team if and when care records need to be discontinued/implemented.

Facilitate all external agencies in carrying out (re)assessment processes enabling funding agreements.

Ensure that all staff within the care team participate in the appraisal/supervision system. To keep a clear record of when supervisions/appraisals have been held and when they are next due (supervision every 4 months and appraisal once a year).

Takes responsibility for assisting staff with personal development and education of team members and liaising with the Regional Manager & HR Manager regarding training needs and requests by staff members.

Ensure the allocation of staff reflects the required skill mix and establishment levels are appropriate to the clinical area and in conjunction with the Regional Manager/Director, resolve these where they arise. Ensure that there is suitable cover within the home prior at all times.

To ensure that the clinical team work to a total quality management model of health practice that supports and promotes hope and optimism for all service users and their carers.

Ensure that the team understand their roles in respect to wider health policy and guidelines and that they have read and signed same.

Actively seek out evidence based practices and after sharing this with the Regional Manager. Implement change where necessary and when agreed by the Regional Manager/Director.

In collaboration with the MDT promote, implement and evaluate specific outcome measures for all residents in agreement with the Regional Manager/Director.

Support the nursing team during care management reviews and liaise with the Regional Manager in relation to outcome of the reviews. Ensure that the staff nurse has updated all required care records following a care management review.

Document any complaints formally and investigate the nature of the complaint as per complaints policy and procedure. Liaise with the Regional Manager/Director regarding same and implement change to reduce/prevent reoccurrence of identified negative outcomes.

Knowledge, Training and Experience:



To attend to their own personal and professional development needs as identified in personal development plans.

Be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in caring for clients within their service area.

To be responsible for professional self-regulation and abide by the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice.

To ensure that safe robust procedures are in place regarding the custody and administration of medications in accordance with the code of practice. Provide guidance to nurses in relation to appropriate clinical checks and use of medication. Ensure that the clinical area is in accordance with RQIA standards.

Ensure supplies ordered for the workplace are appropriate to the needs of the service area and are used within budgetary constraints. Monitor equipment used by the nursing/care team, domestic staff, office staff and catering staff and ensure that it is stored correctly. Any maintenance issues must be documented within the maintenance folder/ diary and communicated in a timely manner.

Follow procedure on handling service user money and valuables. Ensure that there is a documented schedule of checking patient's property on a 3-monthly basis.

Promoting Positive Environments



Take an active role in ensuring working conditions are as pleasant as possible and any unpleasant conditions are effectively managed by eliminating or reducing the effects and communicating this with the Regional Manager/Director.

Ensure that staff follow procedures for managing positive infection control practices and ensure they are followed in line with the care centres policy and Public Health guidance including the management of Covid.

Ensure that all staff follow the home's dress code to promote safety and encourage a professional work environment.

Professional Responsibilities



To observe the homes philosophy of care at all times and eliminate negative practice/environment immediately. Inform the Regional Manager/ HR Manager in writing of any concerns relating to negative or unprofessional behaviour.

Create, review and update the policies and procedures of the Care Centre and to comply with the Health & Social Care regulations.

To conduct care and management reviews with professionalism.

To maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of care and management and promote this within the team.

To inform the Regional Manager/director of any serious difficulty or abnormality.

To foster positive working relationships.

To lead all staff meetings.

To provide out of hours management advice.

To motivate all staff within the Care Centre.

To continuously seek out ways of developing the service provided to the clients and liaise any suggested changes with the Regional Manager prior to implementing.

To promote high standards of record keeping and ensuring care plans fully reflect client needs and are written holistically.

To counsel, advise and support all staff utilising evidence based practice and in conjunction with senior management team support.

To monitor all clinical standards on an ongoing basis, and ensure corrective action is immediately taken to resolve any care deficits identified. Carry out spot checks on all staff members work ensuring that residents are well presented and their bedroom/dayrooms and communal bathrooms are kept neat and tidy. Implement any changes required from environmental or Health & Safety audit action points.

Staffing & Personnel Responsibilities



Ensure that all staff in the Care Centre meet the statutory and mandatory training requirements and liaise with the Regional Manager & HR Manager when set targets for completion are not adhered to.

To always follow up any grievance and/or disciplinary action in line with employment law and where necessary consult with the Regional Manager/director on these issues, keeping clear written records of evidence at all times.

Governance



To oversee all departments and ensure that they are completing schedules/documenting as per home policy the work and hours completed that they perform. Ref NTD system checks and staff rotas.

To oversee and ensure that all qualified staff within the care centre adhere to the policy for administer of medication.

To oversee and delegate responsibility to the Clinical Lead/Deputy Manager for the management of the medication ordering system of drugs and dressings as required from GP's and linked or nominated Pharmacists and implement a clear structure of drug ordering on a weekly basis and how these are received. Ensure that all records in respect of medication is stored effectively and that medications Kardex meet the standards required by NMC and RQIA.

To have knowledgeable use of equipment within the clinical/non clinical area.

To be knowledgeable regarding emergency procedures pertaining to the residents including specific client medical conditions and with regard to Mental Health Order and Mental Capacity Act/ DOLs.

To respond to the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents.

To liaise with clients, families, staff, GP's and other multi-disciplinary team members to promote good care.

To monitor all aspects of the service users care, including their Activities of Daily Living. To ensure that staff treat residents with privacy and respect. To encourage residents to fully access facilities, both within the home and the wider community.

To carry out pre-admission assessments to ensure that all residents are assessed prior to admission, evidencing that their needs can be met at the home. Delegate to the Clinical Lead/Manager/Regional Manager when necessary.

To demonstrate the homes capacity to meet the assessed needs (including specialist needs) of all individuals admitted to the Care Centre.

To ensure Safeguarding policies are adhered to and to protect and safeguard vulnerable people. Report all safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Champion and the relevant social worker without delay in adherence with Safeguarding guidelines, follow the homes flow chart on reporting a safeguarding issue. Liaise with the Regional Manager/director all safeguarding concerns directly.

To communicate a clear sense of direction and leadership, which staff and service users understand and are able to relate to the aims and purpose of the Home.

To ensure that the nursing units are supervised at all times both during the day and at night and complete night visits when arranged/ agreed with the Regional Manager for the purpose of monitoring practise and standards of care.

Ensure completion of recruitment audits on a regular basis to comply with employment law. .i.e. - 2 x references (one of which must be from current employer), gaps in employment are investigated, evidence of qualifications to carry out the role i.e. NMC, NISCC certificate and live on the register. Satisfactory Access NI check.

Health and Personal Care Responsibilities



To ensure that service users rights are respected at all times and in line with Human Rights Act and Mental Capacity Act 2016 and ensuring Deprivation of Liberty ( DOL) guidelines are followed. To follow Easteden Limited equality and diversity policy.

To ensure that residents are safeguarded from physical, verbal, financial or material, psychological or sexual abuse, neglect, discriminatory abuse or self-harm, inhuman or degrading treatment, through deliberate intent, negligence or ignorance, in accordance with written policies.

To ensure staff provide high standards of person centred care for each individual service user/ resident and monitor and support staff to do so.

To be responsible for the health and safety, by ensuring that the health and safety of all staff, residents and all visitors to the Care Centre is maintained as is reasonably practicable, in line with current relevant health and safety legislation.

To monitor and review the Care Centres resources and ensure that the Home is equipped for the needs of the residents and fit for purpose by ensuring there is an adequate stock within all departments with a contingency plan if stock should run out.

To ensure that safe working practices are being demonstrated at all times.
