Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims independently, ensuring cases are handled efficiently and effectively from cradle to finish.
Conduct pre-action investigations, including reviewing disrepair reports and engaging with expert witnesses.
Draft legal documents, correspondence, and court applications as required, including letters of claim, particulars of claim, and witness statements.
Liaise with clients, landlords, insurers, and third parties to ensure clear and effective communication throughout the litigation process.
Undertake legal research and stay updated on housing disrepair regulations and relevant case law.
Negotiate settlements and, where necessary, liaise with counsel for court hearings and mediations.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive file records, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
Provide regular updates to clients on the progress of their cases, prioritizing excellent customer service.
Support the wider litigation team as needed and contribute to a collaborative working environment.
Qualifications
Proven experience in housing disrepair litigation, with a demonstrated ability to handle cases independently from start to finish.
Strong understanding of housing disrepair law and personal injury protocols (if applicable).
Excellent legal drafting skills, with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to analyze legal issues, identify risks, and propose effective solutions for clients.
Strong interpersonal and client care skills, with a commitment to building positive relationships with diverse clientele.
Outstanding organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage deadlines and competing priorities effectively.
Proficiency in case management systems and general IT literacy.
Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent qualification (desirable).
Completion of a Paralegal qualification or Legal Practice Course (LPC) is advantageous but not essential.
Day-to-day
Review new claims, gather evidence, and assess prospects for success in housing disrepair matters.
Organize and prioritize a caseload, ensuring efficient progression of cases to meet deadlines.
Engage regularly with clients to offer updates, legal advice, and reassurances regarding their claims.
Prepare and issue legal documentation, including claims and settlement agreements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to share insights, best practices, and solutions for complex cases.
Attend team meetings and actively contribute to discussions on improving processes and client outcomes.
Stay up-to-date with housing disrepair legal developments and apply your knowledge to cases and client interactions.
