Hours: 37 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Housing Standards & Improvement Team for a fully qualified and highly motivated Environmental Health Practitioner to undertake day to day casework on property inspections, investigations, and advice. This is your opportunity to be part of a team undertaking the whole range of enforcement activities within the private rented sector including but not limited to HMO licensing, private rented housing standards, and public health.


What we are looking for

We are looking for an officer who is enthusiastic, resilient, driven and has effective communication skills, the ability to adapt to changing priorities and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will be required to carry out many duties that aim to secure property improvement; including HMO licensing, property inspections, investigations, enforcement, issuing financial penalties and prosecution work, where necessary.


About the team

The team deals with all aspects of Private Sector Housing, including, minimum standards in rented accommodation, Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO), Energy Efficiency and Empty Homes, Disabled Facilities Grants as well as public health matters. However, this role will focus mainly on inspecting, licensing and enforcing standards in the private rented sector.


Are you a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner?

We are looking for a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner who wants to help make a difference by using their knowledge and experience to improve the quality of life for tenants. The successful candidate will have a Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or achieved Chartered Status of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).

This post is based primarily on working (and travelling to visits) from home, although there will be opportunities to work from the office, particularly where this links with the preparation of enforcement notices.

In this role you will focus on ensuring improvements to the standard of the private rented sector across the Borough. Your main duties will include among others, the following.


This post is covered by the Government's Code of Practice on the English Language Fluency Duty for public sector workers. The post holder will be required to communicate verbally with customers and provide advice and/or information in accurate spoken English.
