We are currently looking for a Schools HR Business Partner to join our busy HR team. This post is full time however we would be happy to consider flexibility around working hours. Consideration will be given less hours, term time only contracts and more flexible working patterns.

Reporting to the Schools HR Manager and as part of the wider HR Business Partnering Team, this post will play a key role in leading and further developing the new schools HR Team implemented on the 1st of April 2023, in support of delivering the schools HR traded service for around 40 schools in West Berkshire.

The postholder will work closely with the HR and Payroll teams to ensure a seamless and high-quality HR, Payroll and L&D/OD service is delivered to our customers at both the Council and as part of our schools traded service.

The role

  • To support the HR Manager - Schools with establishing, building and overseeing the management of the schools\' traded HR service including development and growth of the service, cost design, income monitoring and management, marketing of the service, ensuring appropriate content of the offer and ensuring contacts are set up and managed appropriately according to the Council\'s legal and contractual requirements.
  • To act as key point of contact for schools HR queries relating to the operation of the schools traded service and to provide complex HR advice where deemed appropriate, and to liaise with legal colleagues as required on casework.
  • To attend schools when required to participate in HR processes as determined by the HR SLA.
  • To support with implementing fit for purpose solutions collaborating with the Service Director for Education and Children\'s Services which help Governing Boards/Headteachers\' to deliver service improvement and innovation, enhance performance through the Local Authority offer to schools and meets corporate and legal requirements.
  • To support the HR Schools Coordinator, with the day-to-day schools HR enquiries and where peaks of work require with contract administration.
  • To liaise with key internal WBC stakeholders to meet schools HR business needs such as payroll, legal and education.
  • To contribute to organisational transformation and changes in ways of working, maximising the benefits and efficiencies for both internal and external customers.
The ideal candidate would have the following skills and attributes.
  • Strong stakeholder manager skills will be essential in the role. You will have frequent contact with the Corporate Leadership Team, trade unions, Head Teachers and school governors, internal key stakeholders and where required third party providers.
  • You will be comfortable working with limited supervision and must be able to work in a flexible manner to ensure that changing priorities are addressed.
  • You will either hold a CIPD Level 5 qualification or possess an equivalent qualification or experience.
  • You will have sound and expert knowledge of current and emerging employment legislation, best practice and how to successfully apply it to workplace situations.
  • You will have experience of working within a HR business partner model.
  • You will be able to evidence the ability to review, and update HR policies and procedures and ensure best practice is considered.
  • You will be confident at using people data to be able to support organisational decisions and highlight risks through a proactive advisory approach.

  • You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement starting at 29 days per annum (plus public holidays) Rising by an additional 5 days after 5 years\' service.
  • Annual starting salary between \xc2\xa337,261 to \xc2\xa343,516 per annum, (pro rata for part time). Pay award pending.
