Calex UK Ltd is a specialist training and consultancy provider working with leading automotive manufacturers. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a skilled and proactive HR Lead / Generalist to support one of our client contracts.

This is a hands-on, autonomous role where you'll lead HR activity across the contract, ensuring legal compliance, supporting managers, and driving a positive employee experience. You'll report into the Calex HR Manager and work closely with the Contract / Partnership Manager, to align HR support with operational needs.

Key Responsibilities



Lead HR operations on the contract, ensuring compliance with employment legislation and company policies

Support and coach managers on employee relations, performance management, absence management, and disciplinary processes

Manage recruitment end-to-end: advertising, shortlisting, interviewing, referencing, onboarding, and safeguarding checks

Maintain accurate HR records and documentation, including new starters, leavers, probation and appraisal tracking

Administer and maintain the HR system (CIPHR), ensuring data integrity and timely reporting

Collaborate with the Contract / Partnership Manager to understand operational priorities and tailor HR support accordingly

Work closely with the Calex HR Manager to ensure consistency with wider HR strategy and policy development

Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive working culture in line with Calex values

Coordinate company equipment allocation and maintain logs for new starters

Build and maintain skills matrices and competency records

Contribute to wider HR projects and support the development of new policies and procedures

About you



Proven experience as a HR generalist, ideally in a standalone or contract-based role

Strong working knowledge of UK employment law, GDPR, and HR best practices

Confident in leading on HR compliance and advising managers on complex employee matters

Experience with recruitment, onboarding, safeguarding, EDI, disciplinaries, redundancies, TUPE, and absence monitoring

Familiarity with HR systems (CIPHR preferred) and strong IT skills

Excellent communication skills with a proactive, credible, and caring approach

Ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and adapt to changing demands

Ideally CIPD qualified or working towards it

Salary & Benefits:

Contract:

Permanent / Full Time

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday / 40 hours per week

Place of Work:

You will be based mainly in the Coventry / Daventry area. There will also be times when it may be necessary to work from alternative locations, e.g. Milton Keynes or one of our offices in Abingdon on Slough.

Pre-employment Checks:

Calex will undertake the relevant/standard employment checks with any successful candidate. This includes contacting all nominated referees, as well as checking candidate ID, driving licence (if appropriate) and right to work in the UK. Some roles may also be subject to further pre-employment checks (confirmation will be provided through the recruitment process). The nature of this role may necessitate that we undertake a DBS check.
