We're seeking a proactive and confident HR Manager to lead our HR function and serve as a trusted advisor to the leadership team. This is a standalone role with support from a developing HR Apprentice. You'll play a pivotal role in recruitment, policy development, employee relations, and payroll, while also helping prepare the business for growth via acquisition, including potential TUPE transfers.
You will also take ownership of our new HR system (Employment Hero), helping to embed its use across the business, manage employee data, and ensure compliance and efficiency in our people processes.
This role would suit an experienced HR generalist ready to step into their first HR management role, with the autonomy and support to grow the role and make a meaningful impact.
Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm 37.5 hours (1 hour unpaid lunch)
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Resourcing
Lead the end-to-end recruitment process for permanent and seasonal hires.
Partner with managers to write compelling job adverts and support with interviews and selection.
Oversee onboarding and induction to ensure a seamless and positive experience for new starters.
Policies & Compliance
Review, update, and embed HR policies to ensure alignment with current employment law and best practices.
Monitor upcoming legislative changes and proactively prepare the business.
Act as the primary point of contact for day-to-day HR queries and policy interpretation.
Employee Relations
Support and guide managers through employee issues, including conduct, absence, grievances, disciplinary matters, and performance issues.
Oversee investigations and formal meetings process where necessary, ensuring a fair and legally compliant approach.
Organisational Development
Work with the Directors on workforce planning and culture development.
Contribute to training, development and performance management initiatives to upskill the management team.
Support internal progression and leadership capability across the business.
HR System & Payroll
Act as system administrator for Employment Hero, managing workflows, data integrity, and reporting.
Train and support managers and staff in the effective use of the system.
Work with finance to support accurate and timely monthly payroll processing, ensuring changes, starters/leavers, and absences are correctly reflected.
Strategic Projects
Support upcoming business acquisitions and lead on TUPE-related HR activities.
Contribute to business change projects that affect our people, structure or processes.
Continuously improve internal HR processes for scale and compliance.
Team Leadership
Line manage the HR Apprentice, supporting their learning and professional development.
Develop the HR function as a trusted, visible, and valuable part of the business.
Person SpecificationEssential
CIPD Level 5 required.
Solid HR generalist experience within a fast-paced or operational environment
Confident advising managers and directors on all areas of HR
Strong working knowledge of UK employment law
Excellent attention to detail and strong administrative discipline
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
Organised, proactive, and commercially aware
Comfortable using HR systems and handling sensitive data
Desirable
Experience managing or implementing Employment Hero (or similar HR systems)
Experience in payroll administration or close collaboration with payroll/finance teams
TUPE and acquisition experience
Sector experience in construction, logistics, hire, or events
