The Opportunity:
We are looking for a hands-on, pragmatic, and people-focused Freelance HR Manager to join us on an ongoing contract basis. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact across our small group, designing and implementing HR processes that will foster a positive, efficient, and compliant work environment. You will be the go-to expert for all things HR, working closely with management and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Manage the full-cycle recruitment process for front and back-of-house roles--from writing job ads and screening candidates to conducting interviews and facilitating a smooth onboarding experience.
Employee Relations:
Serve as a trusted point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns. Provide expert guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, and company policies, ensuring fair and consistent application.
HR Systems & Compliance Management:
Oversee and maintain our HRIS (e.g., Rotaready) and personnel files. Ensure all practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Rota (Schedule) Overview & Optimisation:
Review weekly schedules across all locations to ensure they are optimized for labor cost control, peak service periods, and employee satisfaction. Advise managers on best practices for efficient scheduling.
HR Administration:
Handle a variety of administrative duties including but not limited to: updating employee handbooks, processing payroll changes, managing leave requests, and preparing HR reports for management.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience as an HR Manager, HR Generalist, or similar role, ideally within the hospitality, restaurant, or retail industry.
In-depth knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law.
Hands-on experience with recruitment and interviewing techniques.
Familiarity with scheduling software (e.g., Rotaready, Opentable, Indeed) and HRIS platforms.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust at all levels of the organization.
A proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to work autonomously.
Highly organized, discreet, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule & Location:
Months 1-3:
3 days per week onsite (to immerse in our culture, build relationships, and understand operations).
Thereafter:
2 days per week onsite and 1 day remote, with flexibility for occasional urgent matters.
