As a Transport HR Officer you will operate as an HR generalist, providing guidance on HR policies and processes. Supporting in all matters of Employee relations, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, flexible working processes and long term sick processes. In your role as a Transport HR Officer, you will manage the day-to-day running of the Transport department\xe2\x80\x99s HR matters. This will include playing a critical role in ensuring that all staff are treated in a manner that is reflective of our values, providing robust advice on all people matters. As a Transport HR Officer you will also be involved in supporting a range of activities such as equality and diversity, negotiation with external-related agencies, pay, recruitment and working practices.

  • Working closely with the Transport department and assisting line managers to understand and implement HR policies and procedures
  • Liaising with a range of people in Transport involved in policy areas such as staff performance and health and safety
  • Recruiting staff in Transport which involves developing job descriptions and person specifications, preparing job adverts, checking application forms, shortlisting, interviewing, and selecting candidates
  • Developing and implementing policies in Transport on issues like working conditions, performance management, equal opportunities, disciplinary procedures, and absence management
  • Advising on pay and other remuneration issues, including promotion and benefits
  • Undertaking regular salary reviews and supporting performance management
  • Maintaining employee records
  • Interpreting and advising on employment law in the Transport department.
  • Dealing with Investigations, Disciplinaries processes, including all Invite to Disciplinary packs and Disciplinary outcome letters
  • Dealing with grievances, flexible working, Performance Improvement procedures, including all Invite letters and outcome letters.
  • Developing HR planning strategies, which consider immediate and long-term staff requirements
  • Planning and sometimes delivering training, including new staff inductions
  • Analysing Transport training needs in conjunction with departmental managers


Qualifications
  • Previous experience within the Logistics and Supply chain sector
  • Experience working in a Unionised environment
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit: an ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner; demonstrated ability to produce results, prioritise and perform a variety of tasks on short notice within demanding deadlines
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload
  • Interpersonal skills to form effective working relationships with people at all levels
  • A proven track record of \'making a difference\' and leading by example
  • The ability to analyse, interpret and explain employment law to line managers and employees
  • Integrity and approachability, as managers and staff must feel able to discuss sensitive and confidential issues with you
  • Curiosity and a willingness to challenge organisational culture where necessary
  • The ability to compile and interpret statistical data and communicate it in a professional and understandable manner
  • Influencing and negotiating skills to implement personnel policies
  • Potential to handle a leadership role and collaborate with Senior Management
  • You are a clear and engaging communicator, strong written and verbal English, and will use a variety of methods to keep the team well informed
